Find a local restaurant that offers a prix fixe menu with wine pairings with each course. You'll get a short pour of a different wine with each course, selected to complement the food.

It's a great way to experience different wines and see how they pair with different food. A ho-hum wine on its own may chime alive with the right food.

Anyway in response to your OP alcohol is alcohol. I like beer but in reality as long as you know how much actual alcohol you're consuming drinks are all the same. You're having them to feel the effects, first and foremost otherwise there are lots of crazy things you could eat or drink that taste better but aren't psychoactive.

I caught a good laugh at this.

OP: I second (third) gin and tonic. Been my "go to" for years.

Last weekend we had Johnny Walker Black 2 ways with Soda, water. both times it was disgusting to both of us, so some lucky guest will get it this weekend. Acquired taste im sure.
Grey Goose and cranberry seemed to make the woman happy so ill pick up a bigger bottle of that. I didn't mind it straight so ill probably hunt down some drinks involving Goose.

One guest is bringing a margaritaville. Never had a drink out of it but ive seen it in action around the holidays. Ill most likely split that if I even get to since normally this seems to be the last drink of someones night.

Try that Johnny Walker in a Celtic sour. 1 part whiskey 2 parts sour mix, shake with ice, 2 drops each aromatic bitters and orange bitters. Strain into glass over ice. Pros mist the glass first with whiskey before pouring but it's not necessary. Orange peel garnish if you want.

By the way, those bitters are a good thing to have around. Three drops in a glass of soda water will cure a hangover or upset stomach in no time.
