We are both really excited, that'll make two for us, but we've also decided that's it. It's all we ever really wanted initially, so this is great.

Getting the snip after this, I've seen too many guys in their late 40's suddenly find out they are expecting again after thinking their wife is through menopause, so I want to make things a little more certain as we are both only 35.

Anybody here have the snip (that they care to admit)? Little leery about it, but the alternative scares me more.

Snipping:

The procedure itself is not painful. When the local wears off you'll feel like you've been kicked in the balls. This feeling will a little longer than if you'd actually been kicked in the balls.

After a few days you'll be good to go and after a few years, you might have reduced testosterone levels. Enjoy.

Turns out it is a boy! That will be nice for my son - he'll be 2.5 by then, so not a bad age gap.

MightyMouseTech

So I remember you said you got yours done in Ottawa and it was really quick, pretty painless.

Was that local anesthetic or did he put you out?

Everything I read, seems to point to local freezing, but when I went for my consult, the urologist said he only does it under sedation.

So I basically said I wasn't comfortable with that, wanted local, and he said he doesn't do it that way, so find a different urologist. So I walked out. Guy was a jerk anyhow and the fact he wanted to sedate me made me think he maybe didn't do many per year. Just want to make sure I'm not wrong - that usually it is local anesthetic.

Any other tips? I've asked to go see a person that apparently does a bunch of them about 40 minutes away. Ottawa is out of the question, too far, my wife would kill me if I told her I was driving 5 hours for this procedure lol.

Yup, was just a local. Was literally a five minute procedure. Must be someone in T. who specialises in them?

Yeah, did a bunch of searching online now given I didn't like who I was initially referred to. Found a place in Toronto that does no needle / no scalpel procedure. Bit of a misnomer, since obviously they use a needle at least to gain access, but I get that they are just saying no needle for freezing.

But it's great that at least its a local, not sedation. So I've got my doc sending a referral to them now.

Thanks!

The procedure is pretty painless. You might have a little discomfort after walking long distances.

Word of advice, I wouldn't do it. You never know if your relationship will take a dump and you end up with a younger wife or significant other. She might want a kid and it's going to be a pain getting a reversal.

Edit: Please don't take offense. I'm just trying to help.

No offence taken, I get the spirit in which the advice is provided.

Maybe its ignorance, but I just don't see it happening where we get divorced. And even if by a long shot that did happen, I'm definitely done with kids either way. But I understand your advice.

I'm glad you were not offended and I understand. I was in the same frame of mind when I did it. I just wish I had more options now.

Good luck on the procedure.

The guys I know who had this done, it wasn't the procedure that was the problem. It's months/years later when that sperm isn't being re-absorbed and your testicles blow up to the size of grapefruits when you have a problem.

But go ahead, make her day

LOL - but while that is a risk, I think it is lower. More often the sperm should get re-absorbed and killed.

I'm more doing this to make my day. Do you have any idea how much I hate condoms? Shudder. Honestly I think it numbs like 60-70% of the feeling for me.

I don't know how accurate this is, but I heard some women lose a little interest in doing with a guy that can't get them pregnant. There's less of a thrill factor.

I experienced a little of this months after the procedure, but things could have been heading south already. Ha ha.

How old were you both if you don't mind me asking?

Mine has told me she's going to cry for weeks if she finds out she's pregnant again. I think she really wants to remove the "thrill factor".
