Tyre pressures

Worth checking......
I had tyre pressure warning come on the other day on all 4 tyres! It was the first really cold morning so I assumed it was temperature BUT when I checked pressures there were all a bit low but I noticed a slight air pressure when removing valve caps and found all 4 valves were slightly lose! I don't think valves can work there way lose so assume they had been like it from handover a few months ago, surely something that should be part of PDI?

Sounds very odd to me...where do you park your car? If the actual valves had been loose at delivery, you would have known about it well before now. My guess is tampering.

+1. No way you'd get minimal pressure loss from loose valves after "a few months".

Hi Guys
I love a good conspiracy theory but car is locked in garage overnight and never left anywhere vunerable. The valves were only very slightly lose and with valve caps on tight surely a small leak could have been hardy noticeable?
Anyway the main point was check your valve when you do tyres just in case!

The valve caps are not there for sealing purposes anyway, just for protecting the valves. As long as they haven't fallen off, they are still doing that job perfectly.

WTF you've had the car several months, haven't ever checked the tyre pressures and you are complaining that the dealer didn't tighten the valve caps quite enough?

Can you tie your shoelaces?

Yeah checking the pressures weekly with a decent digital gauge, particularly with runflats is a good idea.

Definately! Mate of mine used to do "visual checks" of his tyre pressures not realising he had run flats and so not realising how flat his tyres actually were

Has anyone taken delivery of a new BMW lately? Do they come with pressure sensors in the wheels now, or are they still using the ABS sensors?

I think it varies by market. Mine (production 4/14 for Switzerland) has direct pressure sensors. Some literature for Italy makes me think that until very recently (November!) "Italian" cars were fitted with the ABS-based system.

Umm, I have been having issues with my TPMS for over 12 months, says all 4 are flat but when you check all ok, reset via I drive and within a week same happens again, I believe this is a common fault with the F20. Mines been in to the local dealer now around 15 times for this fault, and they haven't got a Scooby how to fix it.

Beats me why BMW added technology and complexity to its TPMS. The ABS-based relative wheel rotation technology is pretty simple, and does the job. Yes, ABS sensors fail, but it's good the system warns you about this!

I was hoping BMW would stick with the ABS-sensors, as the pressure sensors will complicate the car ownership considerably for me. I have many wheel sets, and like to replace the original runflats with other tyre types, and usually wheel types as well.

The way I understand the new EU regulations, the ABS sensors should be sufficient.

I think in the new EU regulations it is mandatory to have individual pressure monitoring for each wheel. That's how I understand it anyway..

The manual for my 2013 X1 states the monitoring system is rotation based so an ABS system by the looks of it, happy days.

Took delivery in September and got pressure / temp sensors (EDIT: should add the manual states the pressure sensors are in the valves)
