850 miles one one tank

Just thought I would share with you a journey I did this week, had the car 3 months now, very happy with it, just those pesky squealing brakes I need to sort.

However Monday just gone I had a work day from hell, First job was in Workington Cumbria, filled her up from nearly empty. Drove from Cheadle to Workington finished there and started to head home, got as far as Lancaster asked to do a call in Newcastle upon Tyne. Quick 180 and off I went.
Drove back to Cheadle, Tuesday return trip to Workington, and then today pottering around Cheshire, Just filled up after 850 miles on one tank.
Very impressed.

That sure is impressive, which engine do you have and were you using Eco Pro the whole time?

I prefer to go by MPG - the most I've had in my 116d non-ED was back in the height of summer - about 68 over a trip back from my parents house in torquay to mine in manchester (quiet motorway all the way, constant 70mph on cruise control)

850 miles on a 13.7 gal tank = 62 mpg - not bad for motorway in what sounds like constant rush hour!

thats why diesel rocks! (and the £30 a year car tax)

im gonna be doing this round trip journey again for xmas, ill take a photo of my trip computer this time [of course, with it being winter and colder, my MPG will go down compared to summer when the air is thinner]

Very impressive, I haven't been on a long run yet but around town I'm getting 51.3mpg according to the computer. I will have to check the accuracy next fill up. I love the zero RFL!

Most I can do to get 480 miles to a tank in my 118d - I must be doing something wrong!

I tend to set cruise control to 75mph and my journey is 150 miles return, about 100 miles motorway and remainder relatively quiet A roads and I only get about 51mpg. The motorway is pretty quiet an I mostly never need to come off cruise control. I don't have AC on. I have a 118d M Sport Auto. The mpg doesn't seem to change noticeably between 18" or 16" tyres. On the A roads I use Eco Pro mode on motorways I have tried both Eco Pro and Comfort, neither makes much of a difference. I am not heavy on the accelerator or the brakes, the tyre pressure is spot on and still I don't get anywhere near the expected mpg. :-(

Only 11.4 gallon tank (UK) so mid 70's depending on how much is left in the tank.

I think the consumption would be more in your favour if you drove slower. The faster you go, the more air you have to move around, wasting energy.

Chaps, I spent most of the time in Eco pro mode, made sense as the weather was foul, didn't stop peeing down all the way. Kept to a steady 65 on A roads 75 on the m-way. Was doing it to see if the car could actually manage these sort of results. Also was in overtime on the way home so no major rush

Tis a good car, comfy well after 15 hours of driving I was bloody glad to get out and stretch the old legs.

The squeaky breaks are a tad annoying, is there a proper fix from BMW? and I have noticed one or twice if you have to break a bit sharpish the pedal is really stiff, they goes to norm again, will get looked at in the next week or two.

Very impressive stuff. The best I've been able to do with my E87 116d is 4,2 l/100 km (67 mpg). I've achieved this several times, and common for each trip is that they've been quite slow with an average of about 76 km/h (47 mph). I would love to go for a slow drive through the Netherlands or some other really flat place, just to see how low I could bring the consumption.

According to the latest issue of Performance BMW, an F20 116d Efficient Dynamics won its class in the RAC Future Car Challenge 2012. That is a 64 mile route from London to Brighton, and it achieved 103 mpg!

That's good going ! Well done.

My all time greatest mpg has been 83mpg so far doing 56mph as to get into 8th gear and in Eco pro mode and I was really trying . I quite regularly see 70's in my 118d auto.

Over the 6000 miles I've done since September , which includes loads of town driving I'm averaging 49mpg.
