Is the black panel display worth it?

hey guys I have just realised I have not added the black panel display to my 120d M sport order!

I am sure my dealer can add it, but what does do and what are the benefits an is it worth adding it?

Any ideas.

So by the looks of the speedo alone its - imo - totally worth the really small amount of money it costs.

Thomas' pictures speak for themselves.....

Black panel display shows graphics of fuel consumption, additional information from your phone book, navigation details, entertainment details etc. Its included in Navi pro, otherwise an option.
Not deadly necessary but a cool feature

Funny sidenote: The "without"-picture was the fist one I found on google, just to remind me: That is actually my own picture . Taken at the first testdrive back in september at release-day.

Wishing I had added it on the M Sport but it's too late now, it's built and heading over on a boat as I type

I don't have navigation, and I don't really see the point in having the black panel display. No useful info there as far as I have seen.

Same here...wish I was better informed by my dealer, well next time I know.
Also a cheap option is the anthrazite headliner which made my colour scheme complete ;-)

That was on my original list but came off when I upgrade to M Sport.

I had originally ordered:
118d Sport
Driver comfort pack
Interior comfort pack
M Sport suspension
Variable sport steering
Anthracite headlining

When I changed to M Sport I dropped the Interior comfort pack, M Sport suspension and Anthracite headlining as it was standard on the M Sport already

Not something that you cannot live without, but it is a nice feature and makes the instrument panel look better (otherwise it looks a bit empty IMHO), for a relative small amount.

Is the standard display in colour?

I seem to remember it's just normal bmw orange on the car I've test driven.. can it be changed or something?

The regular display has white text during day time. At night, or if you drive into a dark tunnel, it changes to BMW orange. In Eco Pro mode, it counts bonus kilometers with blue numbers. There is also a red line, so it is definitely a color display.

Yeah which looks great as it looks like quite high resolution. So I'm not going to go for the extended display. I just remember thinking it was a low res, small orange screen like the old 1 series.

Neither here or there - this halway Black Panel is a joke

I think the Full-Black Panel display one sees on the F01 and F07 is pretty impressive - the one pictured above is a halfway options, neither here or there and the cutaway dials a bit silly to me. If its a £200 option, tick the box but you really shouldn't miss it. Wait for FULL black panel on your next bimmer.

I've got a question:
Isn't this black panel standard on the 116d Efficient Dynamics? Because it shows when to put your foot down and when not. :-) I can be wrong...

Since I got it since yesterday, I just can repeat: Its totally worth the money. Besides the obvious and mentioned, I also noticed other informations displayed with pictures, f.e. Service, doors opened etc. I'll try to take some pics later/these days.

I had no idea this was an option. I fell in love with it when test driving the car, and thought it was standard, so I never ordered it. Called my dealership immediately after seeing this thread. I hope the car is not yet in production so they can still add it. Fingers crossed.

I think there are some worthless illustrations on the regular panel as well. I still haven't seen any useful info there on the black panel cars that is not there on the ones with regular panel. I don't have the blue thingy that suggests how much throttle I should use, but I would not care about it anyway.
