Did you unzip the zip file? You shouldnt, just leave it as .zip and the idrive does the rest.

Or perhaps try reformatting the USB, add the firmware and try again.

Did you download the correct software update for your current software version? There are a couple to choose from.

I did upgrade already and no problem at all: download zip, unzip, move bin file to root folder on the usb stick, plug the stick in the car, run update

Make sure you plug the USB in the port inside glove compartment not on the one inside armrest! Only there it's working

It seems as if there are many ways to do this, but i only downloaded the zip file stuck it in the main folder of my usb, plugged it into the usb under the armrest, clicked software update and the car did the rest.

You can sync idrive with your iphone (with ios6) so that it displays your incoming messages and email. Havent been able to try it out yet.

I just updated my software . Office still doesn't work on iOS 6 with the BMW updates.

Ended up using the connecteddrive update over the air.. I'm very impressed!

to format as FAT32 just go to "my computer" and right click in your USB drive, then select "format" and under file system choose FAT32, but first make sure you already backed up your USB data.

once you've done that just place the bin file in the root folder and try again.

Software Update

The dealer recently updated my 2014 5 series with M performance package with the OS update. He said the OS update would allow the other software to be updated without an issue.

Took the car home and plugged in the USB in the center console, and the update started right away.

Prior to the OS update, I was getting "incompatible software" warning. I used a standard USB formatted to FAT 32.

Check your car at the dealership for the overall operating system, it may be the issue for the DIY update problem.
