Pet pictures

Recently my youngest brother moved to the city, seeing that the 14th floor of an apartment complex isn't exactly ideal for a 7 month old puppy, I have taken in Vincent. At first I was "iffy" on a puppy at my place, but I must say I have grown rather fond of this little guy.

Curious to see what kind of pets you guys have at home. Any really cool fish tank setups?

I love love love love my girls.... and Frankie. I'm an equestrian.

My girls are both registered AQHA black mares. Jacqueline is sun bleached so she looks more like a bay than a black horse. She's young and likes to be out to pasture all day versus stalled all day like my other black horse. "Blackie" (didnt name her, bought her when she was 8 with that name already) would rather stay in her stall all day with her fan on and not bake in the heat. So her coat stays very black.**Picture with black horse in stall is not her stall. It's just a holding stall. That's why there no shavings in it**

Then there's Frankie. Little sorrel (red) colored mustang. Not a show horse whatsoever but he has the best trot in the world for a mustang. Such a sweetheart. Just a trail horse, nothing more.

Last but not least was Ferrasol. Little grey Arabian mare. Born in March of 1983. Given to me March of 2007 as a rescue. She passed away on February 22, 2015. Shattered my heart. She was older than me. She lived a good life with under my ownership of her. Putting her to sleep was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. I still cry. She's buried under her favorite pine tree in The Big Girl Field.

This is very cool!

Is that the average lifespan for a horse? 20-30 years? Haha and I thought dog food was expensive, I can only imagine this!

Yup average age is 25. After 25 the Association considers them deceased. You have to send in confirmation that your horse is still living after age 25.

Horses are very high maintenance. Between hoof trimming every 6 weeks, shoes, dewormer every month, the amount of hay and "feed" they go through. Ferrasol was on a special Equine Senior feed PLUS joint supplement. $$$$$ Floating their teeth once a year, shots twice a year for all. Plus all their toys. I swear Jacqueline destroys all her toys within weeks. She's too rough lol.

BBUUUTTTTTT, I wouldnt trade them for the world. (or psychiatric help)

This about killed me. When you arrive at the Stable in the morning to feed your horses and your horse (Jacqueline) collapses in her stall and wont get up. Covered in sweat and not interested in her ball or food.

Emergency visit to the vet. 6 day stay at horse hospital. Cost thousands.

THEN!! You have this freak accident with my other horse Blackie. Took 20 stitches to sew her back up. Another $500 for that incident.

I honestly think one of the main reasons why I was hesitant to take my brothers puppy, was remembering how sad I was when my dog passed away.

Glad I said yes though

Couple of awww moments. Jacqueline's first day on Earth. About 12 hours old in these photos.

Little horse knowledge for everyone. Black horses are actually born silver/gray and they turn black at about 4 months when their baby hair sheds off.

And that's not pee on her belly. That's actually iodine. I put that on her umbilical cord area to keep infection away right after she was born.

You seem to know a lot about horses, did you grow up on a farm/ranch?

No. Just as a kid I wanted a pony and my Mom wouldnt buy me one so I settled for riding lessons 3 times a week at a local stable until she FINALLY bought me my first horse in 1999 for my birthday. (Blackie, still own her to this day) She thought it was some phase "Every kid wants a pony." Boy was she wrong.

There's just something about horses that's good for your soul that you dont get from dogs or cats. Maybe that's why they use them in prisons to rehabilitate prisoners. Horses are simply amazing majestic creatures. I know I'm flooding this thread but I dont care.

This is one of my favorites. I was standing by the lake talking to my Blackie. Notice how she doesnt stand infront or behind, but right beside me. Best companion I could ever ask for. She was 8 when my Mom bought her, she's now 23. Lord help me when the day comes that she's no longer with me.
