Why won't BMW give a better choice with M colours
Here in the UK we have M Sport models not sure if every market gets them ? My point is that BMW should make available a few more colours. On the 1 series MSport we have basic white at no cost. Then black sapphire, glacier silver, mineral grey, Valencia orange and Estoril blue at £515. Hardly a great variety given some nice M colours on other models. Is is cost that stops BMW offering some more variety??

Totally agree. I would have loved a red choice. The Melbourne Red on the F30 is smart.

Since it's their 'base' model I don't think they'll offer the same amount of colors as say the F30. Same goes for the individual program available as option with the F30.
You could always order Individual but it has a nice price tag I'd like to see an Oxford Green M135i! |

I'd go for dark green too. But Individual is not an option on the F20. At least not for mere customers.

Probably because it seems the large majority of M Sport customers will opt for the exclusive blue and orange, and getting a wider range of M Sport body kit sprayed in alternative colours will put the price tag up.

Valencia Orange is not exclusive. You can have it on non-M-Sport cars as well. It used to be 1M-exclusive, but not now.

I think the only colours that are exclusive to MSport models are ones that have a race track name in them i.e. estoril blue on the F series, Le Mans Blue on the E81 etc.
I found the colour choice very disappointing, even more so when I configured a 330d and saw the colour options at no cost. How can Estoril cost £500 on a F20 and nothing on an F30? The same process is involved and I dare say the number of units sold won't be that much different.

@mowflow: It depends on the market. In some markets the cost of the colour is included in the M-Pack and in other countries it is a cost option. In any case, you pay for it, either in the price of the pack or individually. There is no such thing as ''no cost'' option with BMW!

That makes it even worse Fanis. The fact that in some countries all colours might be included as M sport package extras without any variation in price where as in another country like the UK I could get a white one cheaper. Not really a fair market.
A white car still has to be painted using the same process as a black or blue car so why is it cheaper? I know I'm moaning about this and I have a white car but even if the colours were all free I'd probably still have went that way purely because I wanted a red interior for a change. i didn't want black as it's too hard to keep. My wife doesn't like silver and my last car was grey. Blue or orange with red leather are a no for me.

Estoril Blue and Valencia Orange aren't Metallic colours on the F20, they are actually Pearlescent.. I'd expect this to be part of the price increase.
I thought the choice of colours for the M Sport wasn't too bad, my last car (an Abarth) was available in Red, Black or White - none of which were even Metallic |

I agree, BMW should offer more colors as options.

It has to do with metallic and palin colours. for whatever reason, metallic paint costs more so the price difference is then transfered to the customer. I read an interesting article a few years ago (do not remember the magazine, was a German one) about the actual cost of options to the car manufacturer. Metallic paint was the highest rip off, as it did cost a very small amount of extra money for the manufacturer but the customer had to pay a lot. If I remember correctly was somehting like 50 Euro extra cost and they charge something between 500 to 1.500 Euro!! Safety extras on the other hand do cost a lot and the profit margin is much lower for the car manufacturer.
