No way would I say its a good idea. Do something productive with the money, invest it. That M3 won't be worth shit in 5 years, relative to what you'll pay for it, and there will probably a be cars half the original price that will spank it. Invest, let your money grow for a few years, and see if you still want the M3. Go for an e46 if you really want one.

sorry
but your simply retarded (and so are the parental units) if you buy an m3 with a $1500 income! You need to make at least 3x that to buy an M3

Too much
The earnings to payment ratio is WACK in this scenario. $18K/yr income, and speding almost all of it ($1,100) on an M3 at that age??
You are very fortunate to be in this kind of situation, and it sounds like you have supportive parents. But, word to the wise - save your money. Even if you did lose your current job, and earned an even income, or slightly hihger income somewhere else, it still does not compensate for 80% of your income to be going towards a car! It does not make sense for anyone at any age to be spending almost all of their income on a sports car. Good luck

perfect thread for you to post in; then you will realize that you have other priorities that you need to take care of. I know you won't be liking what we're telling you, and you are probably going to make the purchase anyway. So good luck.

i cant believe people post questions like this
no disrespect to the thread starter, but him even asking or even for a second thinking he can afford a m3 on his salary shows how clueless he is im amazed people are even saying it will be tight, be careful, you technically could but you wont have much left over etc how can anyone in there right mind tell this kid he can somehow swing it. he makes 18k a year and wants to drive a 70k car. hes not saying ill save, put away for school, a house , investments etc. no he is saying he wants to blow every dollar he literally has and earns on a depreciating asset . and 10k bro is not a lot of money. i just bought a fridge that is more expensive no disrespect but this is why so many people are broke. im being harsh cause your being an idiot, and i want you to be smart dont be a sheep your whole life. the avg amount people have saved up if they lose there job is 2 to 3 weeks saved. thats it. this guy is the reason why he makes 375 a week for christ sake but hey, its your money i guess. this could be one of the worst financial decions ive seen you know what the main differences between the wealthy and the middle class is? the middle class buy things when they feel like it with no real thought or emotion or planning. they then have what they wanted but dont appreciate it or worry about paying for it so they never really enjoy it. there always worried the wealthy set goals for themselves. they say i can afford it but im going to make another 50k or 100k somehow somewhere, ill find a way, on top of everything else. i will then take that money and use it. you then appreciate it way more because you got it when you reached your goal, not when you wanted it. trust me it works rant over. |

to the OP, i think you should just get a cheaper car and wait to get a nicer car a few more years down the line. i wouldn't get a 328/335 now, cause it seems like your set on getting an M in the future, so why not get it when you actually can.

listen dude i was in the same situation as you were in. when i was looking for i car i really wanted a brand new 335i coupe. i make $1700 a month and i had 19k saved up. there was still no way i could afford it. you cant put every single dollar you have in the bank as a down payment, what happens if something happens where you need a good chunk of change? also insurance for me was a little over 2k a year. plus say you buy the car and it is not what you think it is or what you really want, you are going to lose your ass on trying to sell your not new anymore M3. expect to lose around 15k on that. listen to me man, im 19 years old and im telling you this. i found a 2005 545 sport 6 speed manual that i found a hell of a deal on and it was 25k cheaper than a brand new 335 coupe. you cant always get what you want, especially at our age. shit if that was the case i would be driving a 997 turbo or an M6.

the careful trick here is to buy your first new bmw at after folks think you are too young to be buying a BMW and before everyone thinks you are having a mid-life crisis. You get that right and you are golden!

After reading through all your guy's comments, true that maybe I'm all hyped up about getting a new car and not thinking correctly.
I actually like all the criticism you guy's gave me. True that $1,500/month is pushing it, even if I get a 60 month finance and mothly payments are low. Probably won't get the car. Good advise given on here. silvergray545: Nice to hear from another person that had the same mindset as me. |

New tires = $1000, car payment = $1200 = you do not have enough money. You are young you should drive a 10 year old toyota carola with your mentality to keep you out of financial trouble.

$1,500 a month may be a lot for a teenager, but it's not a lot of money to anyone else.
What about a few years from now, when you're making payments (and maintenance and repairs), while trying to pay rent, pay for food & living expenses, and maybe have a few bucks over to take out a girl in a car she is only minimally impressed with. Buy a used 325 or a 330 if you can find one cheap. |
