By now you've seen the 3.0 CSL Hommage reveal at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2015. There's been a lot of hate on this concept car. I wasn't really a fan from the press pics. But I have to say that in person the car is really quite nice. It is one of those cars that the more you look at it... the more design features you see/find. It's multilayered. I really like it.

Some say that a design or car should be love at first sight. But we all know in real life sometimes we fall in love with our best friend over the long haul. I think this is one of those types of cars. The more you study it... the more you're attracted to the design. Well... at least that's what happened to me.

On to my photos... Dackel.

dackel: great photos and thank you for sharing them with everyone!! you must have had a lot of fun!

unfortunately the concept is pretty horrible. the more i look at it the worse it gets.....but perhaps it's just very non-photogenic and is better in person as you say. to me it just lacks passion...seems like a design just put together as a gimmick

Some-no, many-details of that concept are just too jarring. I think you said it best: it's "quite nice" but nothing more. It will never be elegant, timeless, nor truly beautiful.

I really wanted to love this car. Sadly, I don't. It looks like BMW took an original E9 and then "folded" an i8 around it. Then they stuck in some gigantic kidneys just to make sure they hit that talking point. The front fenders that look like the tab at the top of a cereal box will never look good to me.

Reminds me of the new Camaro with maxi pad wings folded over the corners! Definitely unique looking though. For me there is way too much going on with the styling. Good show though!

The front of the car is among the ugliest I have ever seen. No amount of time staring at it is going to make it attractive.

Its the Lena Dunham of cars.

Looks like I'm in minority.
I love this concept and it's one of the best designs to come from BMW since Bangle ruined it.

If it weren't for those giant downward grills and forced tail light lines...having a rather real taillight design shape it would look much better.

If they had gone with a more classic BMW color and BMW i8 shaped kidney style it would've been 100% for me. Unfortunately those are my only two complaints. It's a gorgeous car.

Again why freaken hideous neon yellow, what is it trying to be a cheesy corvette? And the god awful blingy plastic chromed kidney grills. The kidney grills, trim, and wheels should be in black not polished chrome!

BMW Designers if you are going to go through the time and effort please only use proper classic BMW colors; Silver, Black, Alpine White, or an M paint job.

I like the overall exterior design, besides the oddly shaped huge kidney grills, and cheep looking chrome wheels and trim. The all important paint color should have been a hommage not hideous, especially on a one off concept car.

Silver paint with Black trim would have been the proper color combo.

Whoever chose the color should be fired ASAP!

Please someone key this car so BMW is forced to repaint it properly to do this design some justice!

Otherwise it is cool.

The more I look at it, the more I like the design. Including the front grilles, which most find so disturbing. Actually, I greatly enjoy how this car looks, blending a little of the past (more vertical grills rather than horizontal) with super-modern

How I wish BMW actually built a production version of this car

The front looks like it's hiding a good looking car underneath

It almost looks like camouflage.I tried to imagine the underlying shape without any of the ostentatious body work and I think the car underneath all that mess is actually rather well proportioned and probably good looking.

Does anyone know what the power plant is? If it is an NA 6 or 8, I could overlook the ungainly exterior.

Thanks for the pictures, Dackelone.

The side mirrors remind to long gone trafficators, the predecessor of blinkers.

Do you happen to have a picture of its front side to get us an idea ?

This "hommage" is truly grotesque - I reckon this was different concepts of the past bolted together and some leftover paint while the design wonks were out. Concept car details usually make their way to production cars and I sincerely hope this does not become some Z car. Maybe pass this on to friends at Toyota?

with the exception of the head lights, the front of this car is just hideous!!!!! I'm okay with the side profile, rear is okay. This is the first BMW concept that I have not liked....

Dackelone , thanks for these pictures. This is an amazing photo shoot and some really nice angles to show off the concept design lines.

I can't say I love it, but I do like it. A lot. And I definitely DO NOT hate it. Not everyone will be forward thinking like BMWs design team, and if I have learned two things over the course of my relationship with BMW, that would be:

1. Reserve judgement until you see it in person.

2. BMW current design team is ACE! I have not seen a production BMW car in recent production history (0-5 years) that I dislike. They make beautiful cars!

I guess this is a case were we will have to be patient, and hope we "get it" with more releases and showings.

I know also for example that when my ALL TIME FAVORITE rock band releases a new album, most times I dislike it. And then I leave it for while and com back and listen to it a few weeks later and I find one track I like. And then several. And by the time the next album is ready to roll out, I'm in love with it. And compare the new album to it. Hopefully this makes sense.
