Best and Fastest Car ~$60k

Ok, so after spending a few bucks modifying my 16th car, I realized I'm retarded. Over 20 years I've wasted over $100k modding various cars to end up not being fully satisfied with most of them. I've leased or owned cars as old school as a resto-mod E30 325is to Japanese rice burners like the Mitsu Eclipse 2G GST and Evo X to high performance division European specialties such as the CLK55 AMG, E60 M5, and even a Volvo S60R.

I have been happiest with the reliability of my Trailblazer SS and M235i. From a performance perspective, the FBO Evo X was most entertaining. From a wow factor, I credit the E60 M5.

Today, I have a FBO M235i that is just not powerful/quick enough (325whp/345wtq on Mustang dyno) and before I continue to dump more money into it, I wonder if it ever will be. The jury is still out.

My alternative is to throw in the towel and get something faster and more ethereal out of the box...and NOT modify it. Besides keeping the M235i, I came up with the options below:

1. 997 Porsche 911 Turbo
2. Nissan GTR
3. F10 BMW M5 (although afraid of depreciation and reliability)
4. C7 Corvette Stingray Z51
5. Audi S6 (current gen, biturbo V8)

As fellow Bimmerphiles and enthusiasts, I turn to you to help me decide if I should keep modding the M235i in hopes of having a fast car or get something else.

I know, I know...it's subjective. But, like I said, I really liked the raw speed delivered by the Evo and E60 M5. And the Evo was magic on the track...really quick at NJMP Lightning - putting doen Corvette C6 lap times. If only the Evo weren't built with Reynolds wrap, seaweed, and rusty bolts.

Thanks in advance for Everyones help!

Garage List
i feel ya. i'm in a similar boat.

since i can't help but take my needs into consideration when helping you decide - purely based on your list, i would have it down to the M5 or S6 because the others are not as functional.

i've had plenty of fun in the other types but being able to transport things (including people) and go fast in comfort is key unless you plan on buying several cars.

it's hard to find the perfect car. it's almost time to get one luxury and one sport just for myself. the family can figure their own shit out... haha.

I found a couple stock early GTRs around $60k. 997 TT with high mileage in the $60k mark. But yeah not as many.

Thanks for the input guys, keep them coming.

I agree with that last point 100%.

I just got my wife a new CPO 2013 X3, so that's the family truckster, haha.

Similarly, it would be nice to have a back seat... The M235i is the right size for occasional rear seat riders but more of a selfish drivers car.

It is, without a doubt...a definite runner up. I love the sound and the drive. Plus, it is just magic on the track but looks like a car I'd have to have a matching mustache for. Plus, can't get over the interior.

Sorry man, mad respect for the car but the aesthetics don't do it justice.

2nd gen CTS-V wagon (coupe or sedan as well but the wagon is a better sleeper!) or maybe a '13+ GT500?

You can pick up a C6 ZR1 for just over $60k. I heard they're nuts to drive.

Check out Pure Stage 2 turbo. There are people hitting over 500whp on the forums (Reliability and maintenance will play a large factor).

Another option is a 2014+ CTS-V

2008+ Viper? Those are in the 600hp range and can be had for under $60k easily now.

Not only that, but you turn heads all day in that car. As well, in my research into the car, I've learned they're essentially bulletproof. They appear to be incredibly reliable cars.

Some good suggestions so far! Previous gen CTS-V is fast but would probably need done bolt-ons to get as quick as some of the other cars. Or are you guys suggesting the one that's coming out?

A buddy of mine has the coupe. It's like a nicer, heavier Vette. Love the supercharger sound.

I like that it's reliable. Is that V10 hard to service?
