F20 door squeaks - FIXED!

Hey,

Do any of you guys get door squeaks, mostly on the rear doors. Sounds like the leather seats, but are on the doors. I had similar problem with the E87 130i.

Any solutions?

A common source for door squeaks in modern BMWs is silicone on the door gaskets.

I have that, do you mean on the window rubbers around the window or the one that seals the doors?

So avoid use of any silicon on the rubber seals?

Yes. Silicone remover usually does the trick. Use only silicone free agents on the seals. I think BMW has their own treatment you can order.

What do you all mean by silicon remover? Some people suggest to apply silicon spray to remove squeaks (?).

That is not a good advice for BMWs, and usually what's causing the squeaking in the first place.

Notice the difference between silicon and silicone.

Never use silicon spray on the seals, only silicon-free products, like Gummipflege.

Is your car still under warranty? If so, see if you can get your dealer to check it out.

Yes it's a 2012 model so still under warranty. But if the gummi works I'll just use that instead of taking to dealer and spending hours there

I had this before. Last owner had a valet and rubbers cleaned with silicone. Doors jiggled for months. Took about 6 months to treat even after using silicone remover. Done my head in at the time

I have a fairly simple fix. Ensure that all the paintwork touching seals is waxed and thus super slippery. Works like a charm.

I've started getting this on mine

I've read elsewhere that some recommend Autoglym vinyl and rubber care, however searching their website they state that this contains silicone which seems to be a no no? A shame as there is a Autoglym stockist down the road from me, but if I want to get gummi pflege I need to order from interstate (I'm in Perth, Australia) which will take a week or so to arrive.

Might have to order some and give it a try, bit annoying on a <6 month old car! Half tempted to just take it to the dealer, but a hassle to be without the car etc if I can fix it myself.
