Americans that left for the EU/other countries?

Curious if anyone has left the US to live in the EU or anywhere else in the world. I am simply bored of living here for as foolish as that sounds and I sometimes give some thought to moving somewhere outside of the country....I realize picking up and moving across the map is something that takes courage for some of us so I'd like to know your experience.

You don't need to abide by my numbering below, any personal experiences would be cool to read.

1) Where ?
2) How long have you been there for?
3) What do you do for work?
4)Did you eventually learn the language or do you continue to just use your English?
5) Why did you leave?

Trump is only president-elect, so there is still time to move. Plus I think the snow is setting in, so the northern wall construction will probably slow due to weather.

My niece offered me/family a room in her Montreal apartment early on Wednesday. I had no idea at the time what she was talking about. For the sake of my son's senior year in HS, we are taking our chances and staying put.

Hopefully the list of people who said they would move if he was elected follow through on their threats.

Amen. Would love to see all these useless entertainers who actually think they have power over people in this country to get the hell out.

I vote based on conscious rather than following who's popular like sheep... So I voted Johnson since Trump is hard to stomach yet full of decent ideas (but I will move if we become the 4th Reich), but would've moved if Killary or Comrade Sanderkov won for sure since the liberties of America will disappear for sure.

I was planning on Germany since I speak a shitty amount of German (but I'm sure I can hone it by immersion), I have Prussian roots and work in IT (2 easier ways to immigrate, plus I personally know someone who is a diplomat in Mannheim), I'm somewhat of a beer snob, and the autobahn fuels my need for speed very nicely, plus it's next to The Netherlands for marilized legajuana and other fun stuff without having to learn freaky-deaky Dutch (J/K on the freaky-deaky part).

UK if I'm willing to stomach the high cost of living, or Mexico if living quality wasn't a hit-or-miss (but I assimilate well with Mexican culture and learned a decent amount of Spanish in college).

Taxes way to high and much more sicalized over there. You contradicted yourself saying Trump was naziish. If anyone it was Bernie. Nazi was the national socialist workers party of Germany. I'm not saying the racism part applies to Bernie or hillary, but the economic and governing sure does.

I have a buddy who moved right after he finished college to Germany and hes never been back to the US. Granted his parents are German Americans but he still had to learn the language there which he mentioned was a little difficult. Aside from that he is having a blast there and does not regret the move.

Sorry, I am recovering from a surgery yesterday that is typically done by numbing the area, but they put me under... I'm a bit doped up on Norco and possibly residual anesthesia, so I might've missed something.

Now, I'm not one of those liberals that think of Trump himself as a racist/xenophobe/whatever bullshit labels the media brainwashed the masses with, but his plans and such are controversial, yet it makes sense... But I will leave the split second something I see something too far-fetched getting signed. However, it's some of his followers taking it a bit too far that has got me concerned; I thought it was all extreme stuff until I drove through a seedy part of The Valley last week and saw some ZZ Top lookalike asshole drive a lifted F-350 with the swastika and Confederate flag flown side by side yelling to a black person to "get your negro ass back to Africa, bitch!"

However, there isn't too many attractive countries where I speak the language or could assimilate well into, hence my choices.

I did two years of college in Paris, so not quite the same. I absolutely loved doing something different, and the new experiences were more than enough to compensate for any homesickness. However, I enjoyed it for what it was. Had I had to find a full-time job (I worked part-time) and really pay taxes and be involved in the system, I would have gone nuts. The amount of bureaucracy involved with simple things like setting up your internet is painful.

Really makes you appreciate some of the conveniences of the US. That being said, I think it's absolutely worth it to do for a period of time.

Once my wife and I get our EU passports, will be looking to move. Right now we are looking at Toulouse, Lyon or somewhere in Bavaria. Would be easy for both of us to move somewhere French, German would be much harder to learn. Expect to learn the language pretty much anywhere you go. Think of how people in the US expect everyone to learn English, although, I find they are much more tolerant in most EU countries. They will try to communicate with you as much as possible, and a lot of service industry people speak many languages. If you immerse yourself in it, does not take long.

Would move to a couple places, however, they are way more expensive than anywhere in the US. That combined with me not speaking the language and not having any desirable traits will actually decrease the quality of my life greatly.

@OP - move to CA... it's basically a different country.

The full context was that I was only supposed to remove the gauze and shower 24 hours after the surgery... Which I did and it was the most painful shower I've ever taken.

Few less people in NYC wouldn't hurt...

If I had to move to another country, probably be Japan. Maybe Hong Kong.

Hey you guys heard of China before? I've been hearing that it's a great place. North Korea seems to be happening too.

Maybe we can use some of the liberal logic of Rep Hank Johnson and get everyone in manhattan over on one side of the island to cause it to capsize.......
