Manual air conditioning
Hi all
I have ordered a new 116i Sport in Red but didn't specify the automatic air conditioning as I can't really justify the £650 for it in my budget. Does anyone have this fitted and could you post some pictures, all of the ones in the dealers had the automatic when I was in. Hopefully have delivery some time in June, just need to wait now Cheers |

I'll put some close-up shots up a little later.
I'm very happy with the standard/manual system, it cools rapidly and is easy to use. |

The easiest way is to go BMW website and configure the car you have ordered. You will get very realistic pictures and will be able to switch between manual and auto AC (option 534 as far as I remember).

Here you can see the manual airco, doesn't look too bad.

I have the manaul and had the full auto in my previous car - E90 323i. I honestly cannot feel the difference. The manual looks classy enough and definitely cools perfectly.
Yes, it is cool to see the little digital temperatures on the display but from a functionality perspective, it gets the job done. Do the maths - it's all relative. |

Thanks Martin for the picture, that looks fine to me.
I currently have a E92 with the automatic climate but as I mentioned I didn't see the point of adding this to my new one. Thanks again. |

Just be careful to specifically get a soft-bristled one. I've found that the piano gloss black trim is *extremely* sensitive to fine scratches, the plastic is very soft. I use a microfibre cloth to dry my car after washing, and then also do a quick wipe-down of the dash inside. Last week, I accidentally swiped across the piece of gloss trim next to the gearlever, and it actually caused some very fine scratches, visible from some close-up angles. Now, I've resorted to only cleaning this trim (also above the glove box) with my fine-bristled brush, as I've found it the only tool capable of removing dust without scratching.

The look of the manual is fine. However, with the auto airco, it also comes with the vents for the rear seats. It is located in the back of the hand rest.
It depends on how important the rear airco for u. For me, I seldom take more than 2 people so I just don't care about spending that much money for auto airco. I think it's HK$8k for that option, nearly US$1100. |

Hi all,
I would like to check if a retrofit of the automatic AC is possible is possible on F20/F21 cause I (wrongly) ordered a F21 without. F20/F21 could have (depending on the market) the following climate control configurations: 1. Basic: no automatic regulation (but dials are electric (not mechanic) controls) 2. Basic automatic: with Auto button, temperature sensor and a fdial for setting the temperature 3. Dual automatic: with Auto button, 1 temperature sensor, 2 displays for setting the temperature and other sensors (e.g. su sensor) The climate control board for versions 2 and 3 are visible in this site: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/partgrp.do?m ... g=64&fg=20 specifically: 2. diagram "AUTOMATIC AIR CONDITIONING CONTROL" 3. diagram "CONTROL UNIT, AUTOMATIC AIR COND.,HIGH" Furthermore it seems that the disassembly of the central console (necessary for the substitution of the control unit) is a simple and fast activity: For my understanding passing from configuration 1 to 2 should be possible (question: after the substitution of the control unit an update of the control unit is probably necessary: how/who could perform this); passing from configuration 1 to 3 is most likely more difficoult or impossible (other parts are different, for example an additional dial near the upper central air distribution elements is present). Unfortunately in Germany the BMW reseller answer to a request for upgrade is denied (only configuration 1 and 3 are available here): is this the same in other country? could be the answer of another BMW reseller different or they receive instruction of dening request outside the normal configuration available for the country?
