Will 125i M Performance muffler fit 116i?

Anyone knows if the M Performance muffler for the 125i (N20) will fit the 114i/116i/118i (N13)? I understand that I need to change diffusor panel to house the twin tips. But other than that? They look a bit different from looking at the diagrams at RealOEM.

I had a Cooper S where I changed the muffler to the JCW muffler and that was no problem. But I guess that there could be bigger differences between the N13 and the N20.

with some minor modification maybe it fits but the matter is the back pressure ...
different back pressure for N20 and different for N13
so maybe this is a problem for your turbo lag ...

How can more back pressure from the silencer be better for the turbo in any way?
I understand how narrower headers can increase the exhaust velocity, but the rear part of the exhaust should be as free from resistance as possible in my opinion.

If you want the twin pipe look, simply buy a twin tip that fits the existing system. read some of the 1er threads relating to that or you can buy on ebay

I would like to fit a 125i N20 exhaust as well. My dealer told me I better look around at after market brands like Supersprint, Hartge or manufactures like that for a solution. The reason for it is, that they have to do lots of labor to fit it right! I like to hear diverent tho!

Thanks! But I'm hoping for a bit nicer sound. With my Cooper S the JCW muffler changed the sound very much. Got a lot of pops and a deeper note. And off-cause the twin pipes looks nice.

If this would be possible meants that M Performance 125i exhaust would fit N13 engines (114i, 116i and 118i)...

... too good to become true

From what I can see, you will have fit a pipe expender at the rear of the Cat section, then fit the entire 125i exhaust system including mid muffler and rear muffler and mountings to get what you want.
It may be far more cost effective and easier to source a replacement back muffler with twin pipes and get an exhaust shop to build you the desired system and have a unique sound.

I have fitted an F20 125i M performance exhaust on my F20 118i a couple of months ago.

The 118i has a 65mm exhaust, and the fitment part of the M performance exhaust is also 65mm. We wanted to cut the original exhaust, and fit the performance exhaust without welding, but this did not work out very well. The two parts connect near a bend, and therefore welding was by far the best solution.

The fitment is no problem at all (except that you need to weld). 116i and 114i I think have smaller exhaust diameters, but this also can be overcome.

All I did was to order the exhaust, fit is as described, and change the grey part of my M-sport bumper to that of a 125i (room for two pipes in the bumper).

The sound is good, for what it is (it will never ever come close to a 6-cylinder). If you do a lot of highway driving, you will hear a slight droning noise. I am very sensative to this, so others it might not bother.

The exhaust pops when shifting (I have a manual transmission) and for me it greatly improved the overal fun factor of the car. The engine of this car sounds quite horrible, and the exhaust note drives your attention away from the engine in the cabin.

So all in all, on a 118i it is quite an easy fit!

Thanks! That's what I wanted to hear. You don't think that the smaller diameter will affect anything other than the welding being a bit more complicated?

This is what my Cooper S sounded like with JCW muffler. It's the same engine, more or less.

Cooper S JCW sounds a bit better if I am honest. More pops and gurbles and a it sounds a bit more 'round'.

Still, I think the M Performance exhaust is a good choice if you would like more sound. The F20 is much better isolated compared to an R56 Cooper S, so inside the noise is different.

The pops are there, as you can hear, but not so many as with the R56.

I do not know the 116i exhaust, so not sure if the diameter is the only difference compared to the 118i.

Milltek also has a nice exhaust for 116i.

I'm considering the Supersprint exhaust:
