Heated mirrors question
Hi,
does anyone know more details about the heated mirrors for F20? I am curious since today was the first day the side mirrors were covered with water from rain during the night. Do you need some extra option to have this or is it standard for all F20? The information in the manual does not tell much, it just says "both mirrors are automatically heated when the engine is running". On my previous car, an e92, if I turned on the heating for rear window/windshield the side mirrors got heated and the rain water vanished very fast. Even ice/snow melted during the winter in matter of minutes. But on my F20, i tried turning on the rear window heating and the windshield heating but I didnt notice any effect on the side mirrors. They were covered with rain water blocking the view during my 15min drive to work. Maybe 15min is not enough time? Salut |

When i ordered you had to get the "siktpaket" (which included fog-lights, autodimmed rearview mirror and something else i dont remember) with this package you got heated mirrors and washerfluid-nozzles.
In fact i think it was enough to choose the foglights alone to get the heated mirrors, a bit weird as far as i know it was not possible to get heated mirrors as a standalone extra. But they seem to be a bit weak, takes too long to get rid of snow/ice fog/rain i think. And in the case of just rain it never dries up. On other cars i've driven the mirrors remain clear and dry with perfect visibility in rain, but that's probably too much to expect from a "premium" bmw |

Did you try it on Eco Pro Mode? If yes, then they are not working that fast (or that well for that matter!). In Greece heated mirrors come standard, if you order the fog lights or the mirror pack.

I did get the "siktpaket" or visibility package / fog lights if its in english.
And I was driving in Eco Pro mode, forgot that it makes everything work slower. I will try Comfort mode next time if there is a difference. |

When I was ordering my F20, the sales guy boasted that the folding mirror package had heated mirrors. I do not need heated mirrors here in Brisbane (Hot)
They said if I wanted folding, I had to order the pack which included auto dip rear view mirror and heated side mirrors. It is a german car manufacturer thing (everything is an extra). I was supprised that the sales guy from BMW did not say " Now, do you want tyres for your car" They seemed to be the only thing included. It seems that if you want a BMW with all the extras that the korean cars now have as standard or as a low cost extra, you have to pay the full cost of the korean car just for the extras in the BMW |

On UK cars from the SE upwards you get as standard.
"Fog lights, front including heated exterior mirrors and heated windscreen washer jets" Direct from the UK sales brochure! Cheers Lee |

Probably that's the ''problem''. I found last winter that in EcoPro the mirrors actually never heated in a journey of 20 mins (I touched them and they were cold). When I changed to comfort, within 5 mins the mirror were de-misted and they were warm.

Fanis, thanks for that info! I'll try the heating in comfort mode.
Sounds really stupid though. Should be possible to configure eco-pro not to save power on the mirror-heating then imo. I mean if one wants to heat the mirrors to get rid of ice/snow/water, they want indeed heated mirrors, not some weak/half-semi-heat that don't do the job?! or maybe it's just me. But I guess it's set up just as smart as the rear-PDC that keeps beeping when your done backing up and enter first gear moving forward still beeping. Love that when I back into a spot and plan to stay for a minute or so to pickup/drop someone off etc. Have to "reboot" the car to make the beeping stop bmw had too much beer while configuring how some functions work |

You can configure that in the seetings of the EcoPro mode (but I think you need to have the iDrive with the small screen).

I have the small screen as well. It is not a seperate setting for the mirrors, it is part of the setting for the AirCon/Heating setting of the EcoPro mode.

If I select "configure eco-pro" there is just a tickbox for climate control. So that would include the heated mirrors then? I'll try to untick that box to see if I notice any difference.

Thank god for that..... was starting to think my 125i wouldn't come with heated mirrors which is a must for the uk at the moment.

That's the one. According to the manual it affects the A/C, the heated mirrors and the Heated Seats. Try it and let us know (I would but it is still to hot in Greece for any heating!!).

However, if you buy the top range M135i, I noticed that a lot more of these options come as standard and if you do have to pay for them, they're cheaper than in other versions. |
