Rev matching and first gear
Our LCI 118i rev matches the down shifts by itself. But for some reason, it does not do this for first gear. Is this normal, and why does it work like that?

I regularly downshift to first gear, but I guess I will have to rev match it myself, like I have done the last 25 years or so. I sometimes double declutch it as well, to make it smoother. You can feel it in the shifter that it really makes a difference when going to first. |

My manual gearbox is not likely to auto shift to first gear! :-)
You can of course over rev the engine by going to first gear at more than 50 km/h or so, but as long as you keep track of how fast you are going, that will not happen. |

After a track day today, I found out that the car is not rev matching at all with DSC Off.
And the new LCI 118i is a couple of seconds slower around the track then the pre facelift 116i. They have the same specs, but I suspect the N13 had a lot more power than indicated. The B38 is probably performing according to the specs. The wide M-Sport runflats are slower than the tyres I was running before, and the heavy M-Sport brakes are also not helping when you want a quick lap. |
