VIDEO: Top Gear Hong Kong. 1M Vs. M135i

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Impressive result for the 320hp M135i against the 340hp 1M Coupe, although the race was only 492 feet

The M135i had auto transmission.

On another "note", check out this video of a Bastuck exhaust on a 3 door M135i:

The M135i was auto. They said it won the 150 meter race becoz it had less tire spin, lighter body, and faster gear box.

If that M135i is the RWD, I'm impressed by the launch, considering it was no limited slip differential.

The torque converter will help the launch, the 8 speed ZF box doesn't lock the torque converter until later in 2nd gear.

Obviously a DCT or manual tends to be a bit more abrupt with the torque delivery to the wheels and will be more likely to break traction.

Not a terribly surprising result given the length of the race and the car configurations. For those of us living in A'murica (FUCK YEAH!), this race was 492 feet. For perspective, 1/8th mile is 660 feet and a quarter mile is 1320. It's hard to beat a good auto tranny in a street race. During early acceleration, you lose a lot of ground to slow manual shifts. 20 HP isn't going to make up the difference until you're well under way.

I never ever will understand what the fascination of being quicker by a second or two has when we driving the car of our dreams ... who really cares I ask ?

Bit embarrassing for 1 M owners, but I suspect the result might be different over a full quarter.

Not easy to find 1/4 mile of empty space in HK without traffic or traffic cameras let alone pedestrians.

Isn't the M1 an upgraded/ tweaked 135 engine? Why do they slap an M next anything now.

Not sure the 1M would have made up that distance in a 1/4 anyway.

Drag racing these cars is a full cup of ROFLCOFFEE anyway. So silly. I'd love to drive either.
