125i Buying advice
Hi guys, just wanted to get an honest opinion from F20 owners.
We're looking to upgrade from our Mini Cooper S to a 5 door hatch so that we can start having a family (the 125i being our front runner) I've seen plenty of 1 series around with kids seats etc, so I'm assuming it's got enough space for one kid + pram but would value your comments on living with it with kids. Also, we wanted to test drive other cars just to make sure the 125i was for us and would welcome any suggestions of other cars to compare it to. Thanks all |

If you drive a lot, maybe you could consider a diesel engine. Otherwise, I think you should be enthusiastic of the car, especially if you take the 8 gear Automatic (it drives like a Rolls) |

awesome thread washout. I am looking of doing the same thing also from a Mini Cooper S although I have some doubts about a pram fitting in the boot nicely.
I could not test drive a 125i but tested an 118i sport and the ride and interior space is very good for a family with one child, especially compared to the Mini Cooper S which with the sport setting suspension and RFT tires was very very rigid. |

I'm very happy with both the performance of my 125i and the refinement the car offers. Performance wise it's an improvement on my previous car which was a mk6 golf GTI. The GTI felt more like driving a hot hatch though than the 125i does. I think this is more down to the pedigree/branding of the GTI.
The handling is brilliant being rear wheel drive and the m performance upgrade brakes are fantastic and a worthwhile option. The adaptive suspension is also a plus but maybe not a necessity. I pretty much fully spec'd my car and could have brought a good spec M135 for the same money to be honest. I had assumed the 135 would be far worse on fuel economy. However, this does not seem to be the case although its difficult to really to tell the difference without doing comparable drives. I would have preferred if the sound of the exhaust was a bit more audible on the 125i. There is a m performance exhaust specifically for the 125i that can be factory fitted or retrofitted. http://www.salesafter.eu/product_inf...5i--n20-.html& Of course there is part of me that wishes I had brought the M135i ( I'd be lying if I didn't own up to this ). But there isn't masses of difference in the spec and performance of mine therefore its certainly not worth loosing any sleep over. 135i M Sport 2d DCT, 0-60 5.0 secs, Top Speed 155 mph, 301 bhp 125i M Sport 2d DCT, 0-60 6.5 secs, Top Speed 152 mph, 214 bhp Please also refer to the review of the 125i as below if you have not already seen it. Hope this helps Martin

I think the 1 is a very practical car. It is like a small touring actually in bootspace. Especially when you put the backseats down, you get quite a big loading area. I think its much more useable space than a 3 series sedan. The fact that you have the entire space from floor to ceiling of the car is very handy. I've used mine already a couple of times for moving and fitted loads of stuff in!

The Sedan and Coupe shapes are bigger but are actually totally useless for moving anything more than a couple of bags. I have an E46 sedan, but I always took my Golf to Ikea. Even moved a washing machine with the Golf. And the F21 has a slightly bigger boot even..
So I wouldn't worry about boot space. The only area where the F2x might be too small for your likings is the backseat, but it should be at least a lot more roomy there than a Mini.
