Damp footwell and mats...

Hello everyone!

I would like to share my yesterday's experience...

After a week with heavy rain (the car was parked outside), I got in the car and noticed a funny smell...it was moisture. I lifted up the mats in both driver and front passenger side and I noticed water drops accumulated. The carpet and mats were damp (and wet mostly in the front).

I have done a bit of research but I haven't found anything regarding F20s but I found something HERE regarding F30, F31, F32 and F34 models. Do you believe that this might be the problem?

Also, I noticed that the windshield cover is not 100% firm in some areas (WTF for an almost 3-year old car?).

I would appreciate any opinions before I get my car to the dealer for inspection.

Our 2012 F20 also had some drainage plug modified along with a software upgrade and some rust protection when it was called in to the dealer.

Thanks for the reply Ovekvam. So, this is a "known" issue?

Do you know if this drainage plug was modified, replaced or just removed? I checked the realOEM website and I noticed that the suspect part was discontinued on March 2014 and replaced by a newer one. There was an SB on February 2014 in which you just remove the faulty part and that's it... however I don't feel comfortable knowing that there will be an open "hole" there...

No, I don't know exactly what they were doing, but it was a standard recall, so it is definitely a know issue of some sort. It is probably mentioned in the PUMA database.

I think parts of it is available online by googling, and people who work in the BMW system can access it more easily with a search interface.

Unfortunately, I have contacted the Service Supervisor about the problem and he told me that there isn't any SB or a similar recall for the F20... I don't know how to convince him to change the damn grommets...

Maybe I will wait for the next storm to soak my carpet and then go straight to the dealer to find out what is going on...

My car had a recall drainage plugs removal last year.

It's just people were complaining of engine bay swamp as a reason for that, not wet cabin, actually. I never noticed anything of the kind under my bonnet though: only a lot of dry (damp at most) leaves to be cleaned off. The cabin is dry as well (I presume), no smell. The car is stored in the street, rains happen.
