Does that car have rear steering or is it just the camo that makes it look like a tone to toe in the back.

I wish the plates weren't shaded out on test cars so you can match one from another.

Not a chance.

Soft-top is what it is getting.

And the weight argument is not a valid one either, since the clothroof has no stability for the chasis whatsoever they need to strut up the whole car to make it stiffer. Meaning more weight. They should have taken the current E89 Z4 Roof Mechanism and use carbonfibre plates.

Yup he'll be better off with MB as will a lot of other E89 owners/fans. As a former E89 owner I wouldn't have it any other way. Rag tops are filthy and weight is no excuse given the proliferation of carbon fiber in recent times. Good to see top Marques like Ferrari and McLaren have moved to hard tops and hope to see more companies following suit while BMW is going back to the 20th century with garish soft tops for their sports cars.

BMW is just doing what people want.

Ragtops are timeless, regardless of how you view the world.

Looking forward to the new Z5 ..... whatever it is. I believe the current Z4 has been in the market long enough. However ....... I love my 28i beyond expectations. I love the folding hard top. And I love the body lines. Color me happy for a long time.

As someone that has an R231 SL63 and had an E89 Z4, I never had problems with trunk space as a daily car. If I need to carry something I just put the roof up, it's not rocket science.

Just like the first 2, my next new convertible is also going to be a hard top - most likely the upcoming 570S spider, so I'm not exactly in the market for a Z5 but it's just sad to see BMW devolving back to rag tops. Anyway, to each their own I guess.

Update: September 20, 2016

Testing for the BMW Z5 has advanced to the Nurburgring! The prototype also now appears to either wear a subtle trunk spoiler or have a slightly raised / curved trunk lid, as well as wheels very similar to the M3/M4 Competition wheels (Style 666M). We also get a first decent look at the Z5 interior.

BMW Z5 Hits the Nurburgring

"The car exercises a very light and minimalistic cockpit,"

i read that as.. 'we are not spending much time on the interior and we know its dated looking already so deal with it. yes we are using the same HVAC controls from 10 years ago and thick chunky flat plastics everywhere.'

and the spy shot today shows that.

Too early to say that. Probably the interior it's just a mess of Bmw parts as of now.
