So here's something weird. I went on the BMW USA site to look up specs of the 6 coupe vs. 4 coupe. The 6 coupe is no longer listed on the 6 series section, only the convertible and grand coupe. You can build a 650i xDrive coupe in the build-your-own section but that's it. The M6 coupe is no longer listed in the M6 section or the build-your-own. Convertible & grand coupe in both places. Maybe because the current 6 series is at the end of its cycle?

Anyway, I found the numbers somewhere else.

Length
440i - 182.6"
640i - 192.8"

Width
440i - 71.9"
640i - 74.6"

Height
440i - 54.2"
640i - 53.9"

Weight
440i - 3721 lbs
640i - 4001 lbs

How much smaller could the 6-series possibly get without being too close in size to the 4-series?

1st generation 997 carrera: 325Hp, 370Nm, 1395kg (232hp/tonne)
z4m coupe : 343Hp, 365Nm, 1395kg (245hp/tonne)

These are both the rwd manual versions (with euro specs).

Obviously porsche takes the 911 to higher levels with much larger engines turbo's special editions and whatnot, but these are base versions (still 91) with comparable prices. Well, the porsche was probably 30-50% more expensive...the boxster S might be more similar priced but that was very underpowered back then compared to the z4m.

And on racing classes, the m6 gt3 competes in the same class as the 911 gt3 R. Both are group GT3 homologated cars (but obviously not consumer cars...). This class is based on similar power/weight ratio.

This is obviously not representative of what they're going to make (who know what they're going to make ), but it is what they have made in the past.

I can see why you only have 75 "appreciates"

Z4M is a great vehicle, but was never best in class, never pushing the bar up. I agree with you that Porsche was more expensive by 30-50% but it was well worth it. Porsche values are going up, some examples are more than mrsp. No Z4m has done that.

That said, the Z4m was probably the closest to being a true drivers car. All the feedback was the car was too stiff, blah, blah, blah, and they made the e89 very soft. Thank God many parts are sourced from better models so we have the options to swap out.

In regards to professional racing, those points are mute since they are so heavily modified. You wouldn't compare a NASCAR to a street version. The same extremes are true for GT3 to street. The Z4 e89 with the V8 was killer, but the consumer never saw that engine option.

This is a personal opinion, not a fact.
What base 997 carrera 2 is more than mrsp?
If any of the cars is goin up in value, its the z4m coupe. Have you seen the video from /drive about it and what they have to say?
Here in europe values of the z4m coupe have risen with about 50% in 3-4 years. It looks like its going the same way as the z3m coupe did. (maybe logical as the z4m coupe is more rare than the z3m coupe I think)
So you may have your personal opinion, but expert opinions (well.....opinions of known journalists) are different and so are market price facts.
