Nobody builds a car like this trying to save money.

It's most likely disposable income used for a toy.

Doesn't this completely mess up the chassis in terms weight distribution?

They screwed up the steering on it as well...

"There was one small issue with the build, though. Fitting the E46?s steering rack around the much larger V8?s headers required some extra flex joints. This causes a bit more a dead spot on center and sort of takes a bit away from the E46?s brilliant steering. Technica Motorsports thinks that an E92 steering rack would work but hasn?t tried it yet, as this isn?t a cheap build."

LS3 would have been perfect.

isn't that what building cars is all about? even vintage cars that are rebuilt rarely recap investments.

news flash: cars are rarely investments.

s65 doesn't weigh much more than the iron block s54.

This car looks and sounds goddamned fantastic. But yeah, $50k plus an S65 and an E46 M3. That's bonkers money even if the final product is a beast. Kudos to the shop for their work!

The concept is incredible.

The steering changes seems to take away the main draw of why you would do this however.

If it could retain the stock steering (not the e92 steering which pales in comparison) then it would be worth the 50k and then some. You simply cannot buy a car that's as fun and balanced as the e46 with a v8 under the hood.

Amazing build but that $50k number is absolutely absurd. If an E36 can be swapped with an S54 with 100% integration for less than half that, I just can't see it being double for an S65 for just labor alone! Insane.

Most of the time is in the CanBus system integration and that's come a long way since those S54 swapped E36 days as well, which was the biggest challenge. And yet they're running Motec and a non-ideal steering setup?!
That number is way overpriced. For $50k and two M3s I better have 100% integration and a new coat of paint

I actually thought it weighted slightly less than the S54. But no, it wouldn't mess up the handling characterics with that engine swap.

Always thought this would be a great swap for the E46. Easier swap than the S62 from the E39 M5.

Couldn't you supercharge the iron block six and get just as much power for almost nothing? Even if you went bananas fortifying all the components you're still at a fraction of the cost.

Exactly. And with the swap they did, they now have all of the S65's flaws that E9x owners complain about.

Wait so what is worth the $50k? The engine itself can't more than 10k and if that and the car are not included, then where is the 50k going? Labor?!

The other possibility is to drop everything into a 330i body. You'd have to add some reinforcement, and swap in components like brakes, but you'd have a hell of a sleeper sedan.

Aluminium v8 versus cast iron I6?
Weight distribution might even improve. (v8 is a shorter engine, so can sit further in the back)
