F20 play on all steering racks ? allegedly ?

6 months ago my 61 plate 120D had an MOT advisory suggesting play in the off side track control arm, I took the car to the stealers pronto and they changed the track control arm and electronic steering rack under warranty... happy days !
Recently I had a major service and vehicle check at an independent BMW specialist and they advised play in the off side track control arm / steering rack? I said I dont think so it was only changed 6 months ago? so I was invited into the workshop to witness the movement in the track control arm with the car on the ramps... sure enough it was visible and you could hear the knock when the wheel was rocked...
Today I had it booked in to the Stealers again for them to investigate the fault, I picked the car up and the service chap said we've checked it and its fine.. the play is within tolerance? I said thats rubbish... and im not satisfied with that excuse, the service chap said I can get the senior technician out to explain it better than me if you like? I said yes I'm not convinced. The technician arrived and was on the level with me and said I cant explain why its got play on the right hand side and none on the left hand side but all F series cars are effected... hes said you can put any F series on the rams and you will find play in the rack?

So every time I go for a service of MOT this will flag as a fault? I'm still in disbelief so has anyone else had the same flannel or can this be substantiated with a BMW service bulletin?

Notice that there are different rack types on the F20. There is a progressive one, and a regular one. There has been some talk about a steering knock on the progressive ones, but not the regular one as far as I know.
