Start Stop issue
Over the past week or so have noticed that the car no longer stops the engine at standstill, even though the engine had warmed up, no climate control, weather is 15c and foot on the brake (auto). Is there a reset option? equivalent of the switch it on and off again. I did try the off button above it and put back on but didn't seem to make much of a difference.

It's getting cold. It takes longer for my car to warm up to the point where it will enable start stop

Just turn it off, it is a pain
If you read the owners manual it 'notes' that the autotop/start could shorten the life expectantcy of the equipment used (Mainly, the Fly wheel and Starter motor). When you consider that the F20's starter motor is more than 3x larger than the prevoius 1 series it could cost heaps to fix it out of warrantee. Depending on how long you will keep the car, you could do the sums to see if the fuel saving are worth it. I suspect it was created as a way of lowering the emmissions ratings. I have already requested my Dealer to reverse the switch mode in mine so that you push the button to enguage the stop/start system. That way it is permanantly off until you want to use it. If you want it done, BMW offer a free service on all BMW to do this at present. |

But since I'm also not a grandpa-driver but rather a sport-mode fanatic, -and probably a sport+ if I had one... ;-) -I think that the few ml gasoline that I probably would save by using the stop start/stop at red lights, is pure nonsense considering that most of my driving is urban....and accelerating in sport mode consumes fra more fuel that could ever be saved by the start/stop feature.... |

I agree with Heder. The first thing I do after I start the engine, is to disengage the Auto Start/Stop. It is a pain, I do not like how it works, the fuel saving is miniscule (the car consumes about 1 lt of gasoline per hour) and I believe that the damage to the engine and the peripheral systems exceeds the benefit of using it.

Thanks for the info! I will check with my dealer, since I will visit them soon for an oil change. If it is free (strange for BMW!!) will be great.

I think the feature is annoying for short stops, like stop-go traffic, but nice for long stops. With my manual gearbox, I just push the clutch pedal, and the motor starts. Very nice if I need to react quickly to get going again. I would prefer to not have it stop automatically, but rather by pushing a button on the steering wheel (and start again automatically).
