The only upside is that I replaced them with euro-spec units with orange directionals -- something that would be more difficult or not possible if everything were LED.

I actually wish the rear directionals on my X1 were orange. They are small and on the corner of the vehicle and the main LED lights on the rear apparently mesmerize other drivers because they frequently SLAM on their brakes behind me and don't appear to realize when I have a turn signal on.

The X3 like the 1er,3er and 5er is available in Europe as entry format as they are available to fleet and government services as well as regular customers As these models are popular with entry customers and retirees.

Therefore least complex maintenance choices are preferred as it is easier to remove and replace bulbs.
However when sold privately, these vehicles are always equipped with the LED option when specified.
Mercedes also offer halogen as standard because they have a customer base that do not rely on options of complexity.

X3 are also RWD based and I'm sure the X3M will be even more RWD biased.

My current X4 M40i drives so different than the previous X3/X4 35i i've driven due to MPerformance tuned to the suspension/chassis, is RWD until noticing slip and turns into AWD (if im not mistaken)

What I've read:

BMW has announced two trim levels for the new X3: xDrive30i and M40i. The first model comes paired with a 2.0-liter twin-turbo inline-four producing 248 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque, up 8 hp from the outgoing xDrive28i. With this engine, the X3 can hit 60 mph in 6 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph, according to BMW estimates. The M40i ushers in the first M Performance variant for the X3, and it packs a 3.0-liter twin-turbo inline-six with 355 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque. That’s up 55 hp and 69 lb-ft from the most powerful X3 from the 2017 model year. Thanks to the added power, BMW expects the model to sprint to 60 mph in 4.6 seconds. Meanwhile, BMW has not announced a diesel engine for the new X3.


The X3 comes standard with all-wheel drive, and the rear bias of this system has been increased for better handling. All models also feature an eight-speed automatic transmission, which is specially tuned for sharper performance in the M40i model.

The F97 X3 M has just been spied at the Nurburgring in its most revealing form yet. It has dropped camouflage from all angles and shows for the first time the design of its M side gills.

I really really want to like it. But that front grille and lack of a more aggressive body kit is killing me. Hopefully when I see the entire final product I will feel differently, but right now it is a pass.

Seriously. The aggression needs to be dialed up here. They really couldn't do anything with those fenders? Hopefully performance will make up for it. Also hoping for features on par with M3 but not sure if that's too much to ask for i.e. reshaped seats with premium leather, full leather on dash, individual colors etc).

Previous X5M's just tells me to expect different front and rear bumpers as indicated in the camo. I just hope it looks good.
