Report: BMW F20 1-Series Hatchback Debut in 3 Weeks - Details Leaked?
BIMMERPOST NEWS Report: BMW F20 1-Series Hatchback Debut in 3 Weeks - Details Leaked? [The image used for this article has not been confirmed to be the real production F20 1-series, although we believe it will be fairly accurate.] The debut of the new F20 1-series sporthatch is imminent as BMW recently launched their marketing campaign One Origin - Two Originals. A new report out of Bimmertoday now seems to give some more information on the F20 and claims that the online debut will be in three weeks in early June. Some details follow: Per this report, the F20 will be only slightly bigger than the outgoing E87 1-series. Two different design lines are said to be offered, Urban and Sport, each comprising of unique wheels, trims, and side mirror colors. This sounds like a customization paradise. 3 non-metallic and 5 metallic exterior colors are supposed to be offered initially, as well as a choice of turbocharged inline-4 engines (petrol engines based on N20). Both 6-speed manual and 8-speed automatic transmissions will be available. The F20 is also said to be available with several electronic gizmos formerly found in cars like F01 or F10 only, such as lane departure warning, parking assistant, rearview camera, etc. At this point, we can't verify if this is accurate information based on BMW's press release or mere speculation, so take it with a grain of salt, for now. The F20 hatchback will not be coming stateside. Follow our next generation 1-series coverage here: http://www.bimmerpost.com/1-series/f20/ |

I would buy one if offered. I would also buy the new 5 series wagon if it was offered.

while I see the appeal, I don't think there would be demand. If BMW could lower the price they want to sell it at - even with gasp cloth seats, then maybe this could be a mini cooper or VW hatch alternative, but Americans (generally) would not pay premiums for hatchbacks.

I really wish they'd take more chances on stuff like the 1 series hatch, give us smaller engines too I think times have changed enough that people are ready to buy a 120d in the US, the problem with diesels and stuff like the 318ti is they've been overpriced, price to undercut the Audi A3 which is also too expensive and you'd sell plenty of 'em. |

I wish they would, but Americans have to have their power.

What they SHOULD DO is bring to Canada to test the waters for the US. We have very similar tastes when it comes to cars as you guys south of the border, so why not give it a chance here? Also in Canada we have the 323 which is kind of odd because the US doesnt have it. As well, we got the X1 before you guys did too.
In my opinion, this has more relevance in the Canadian and US market (and all markets) than say the 5er GT, or even say the X6. I know that people are going to hate me for that comment but I honestly think that the 1er and lower priced 3er's (323 and 328) in Canada are geared moreso towards the younger crowd. If they priced this starting at like 30 then they'd have a winner, and make the options less expensive too. I would definitely buy this over something like a Golf or an A3 |

http://f20.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=523638 I hope he is right and bimmertoday is wrong. Some people thought that the BMW campaign was referring to the F20 and F21, not "urban" and "sport". I guess the 3 door will come along sometime later instead. |

Not necessarily. The current 1er hatches aren't offered with the 35 engine, only up to the 28, and that will continue with the F20 except the top of the line (128i) will get the turbo four instead of NA six. I still haven't seen anything definitive about the next gen coupe getting a turbo six or not.

I'd take a hatch over any 3er any day, but the coupe is just too ugly...F2X'll be nicer looking, but I'm positive it won't be nice enough to sway me from the new 3.
It can't be that much more expensive for BMW to offer the hatch...maybe everyone should start writing letters... Last edited by yakev724; 05-16-2011 at 11:07 AM.. |
