For that price range, you are better off with a Ford Explorer. Nothing else on your list will be anywhere near as fun of a car to drive. So you might as well go with the most practical car in the price range.
However, if you are willing to pay more, I would recommend a Porsche Macan S or Turbo. Stay away from Land Rovers, especially a used one, if you want to keep your sanity.

I love my Infiniti EX35, however it can't tow shit and I have the rwd version but I'm in FL so no snow. I like that it is small and hauls ass (and thats about all it can haul). If I needed more space I would consider the FX35.
That being said I'm not sure what you want to tow, but anything over like 3500 most of that list is out the window. Personally I have been looking to start towing my fathers trailer so I have been looking at possibly trading in the EX for something like an X5 or GLA or M class. You can definitely get a CPO X5 under 40k. |

If you like the Q5, take a look at the Touareg. I purchased mine new in 2012 and it has been an awesome car.

For 40-50k, OP can only get a base level model with a soulless and underpowered V6. While the Ford is much better deal. And personally, I would not buy most VW Group product unless it is a Porsche... If you want something sporty, get a FX35/50 (or whatever they are called these days, lol) or a Porsche Macan.

Honestly, it's an awesome car and my gf is happy as can be.
Obviously, it's on the lower end of Mercedes' car line-up in terms of price. However, it doesn't feel that way. No rattles, vibrations, or funny noises. Performance seemed a bit better than the X3 28i, but obviously it's not going to win any awards. Little details like the paddle shifters are a nice touch. Obviously, they're useless on a N/A V6 suv, but they don't come off as an afterthought. Keyless start works perfect. Lane Change Assist is on par for what I'd expect. Navigation interface is leaps and bounds better than my mother's 2011 E350 (although the Q5 interface was the best). To me, it's a car that stands out just enough. There's plenty on the road, don't get me wrong, but it's not going to get confused with a Kia. Overall, I wouldn't have bought a different car (<$50k) if it were me spending the money. |
