Given the choice I'd take the R8.

Not even close. I'd rather kill the environment in the R8. No denying the i8 is wonderful though.

Let's wait until Audi releases actual pricing before making price point comparisons. My assumption would be that the new R8 pricing stays within a couple percent of the current model. By the way, the only i8 currently available within 200 miles of where I live is used with 2500 miles and the dealer is asking $168,000 for it. I can buy a current generation used R8 V10 for $140K all day long.
I agree, we have to wait to see the actual price, but you have to keep in mind:
1. Manual Transmission in not available in new R8! It's only Dual Clutch Transmission.
2. The current R8 V10 has starting price of 163k and V10+ has starting price of 183k with Dual Clutch Transmission
3. If I'm not mistaken, back in 2009 the starting price of E90 M3 was 56k, while the starting price of F80 M3 is 62k or about 10% increase. How come you doubt Audi does the same thing to the second generation of its flagship car that has the same engine of a real exotic car (Huracan)?

BTW, this is another link:
http://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/2017-audi-r8-v10/

As far as available i8 or R8 in your area, I was referring to the MSRP of cars offered by manufacturer and not what people price them...

Provide all the links you like. Until Audi releases U.S. pricing it's meaningless.

BTW, the R8 V10 is a carryover engine, no difference from 2015 to 2016 at all. This poll/comparison is i8 vs R8 (mkII) not i8 vs most expensive possible configuration of the R8. One more thing, to me when buying a car what I pay for it is what matters, not MSRP.

I would choose the R8. It's a beautiful super car that will give you everything you want and then some. Plus next to Porsche it probably boasts the best reliability for a car at that level.

Not a fan of the i8. Just me.

Hilarious!
If you want to make yourself happy bmw funboys make a survey M3 vs VW Golf. Let it even be R type. Which one would you like?

Put this thread on R8 forum. You gonna make these guys' day. I8 three cylinder lawn mower with speaker enhanced cheated sound or proper v8 (v10) sports car.

It's a joke, right?

I think I'd go Audi. Granted I wouldn't deny the i8 if it was offered either.

Can't deny a more beautiful car with some proper go and a great sounding v10 taht produces more than 600 hp though would love an i8 but at the end of the day my choice would be the R8 considering the i8 is not the last word even though it is a great beginning for an era of new kind of sportscar

At least 5 cars,
911 GTS, R8, GT-R, Z-06, AMG GT, just to name a few, I may even take a new Mustang GT350 with the flat plane crank over the i8
