Question - Standard wheels on 125i??

Dear all,

As some of you may realised, I have ordered my 125i and it is arriving this Friday.

BUT, my dealer just told me the wheels on my car is in the style 379, which is the star-spoke with 225mm front and back.

My impression is 125i is coming with a better wheels style 382, which is 225 front and 245 back.

I definitely want the wider back wheels for better handling.

Any suggestion of what can I do about it??

This is the first time I am ordering a car in. Usually I will get whatever I can see

Thanks for your help

Piero

Did you choose a line on the car? (ie. Sport Line?)

yes, that is the Sport Line.

And dealer give me a follow up call in regarding to this as well.

Basically once the Sport Line is selected, that will automatically replace the 382 with 379 wheels. Replacing a wider 245mm back wheels with a 225mm so-called sport wheels.

STUPID!!!

Anyway, just had a laugh over it on the phone with the dealer, and I literally told them it is plain stupid for BMW on doing this.

So that means I am going to have two cars in the garage (118d & 125i) in the same colour, the same wheels

but I am pretty sure you can keep the standard 125i wheel, even if you choose the Sport Line.

My car came from the factory with 245 mm run flat tires in the rear. I replaced them with narrower regular tires for better handling.

Some journalists complain about understeer on the F20/F21, but my car doesn't have it. It must be down to the wheels, then?

I guess mine one is already too late. Coz the spec is linked to the VIN. If they swap the wheels for me, it won't be covered by the warranty.

Yes, that 20mm different make a HUGE difference in terms of handling.

I guess I will go for more drifting later with the thinner wheels Hhahahahaa, trying to think positive.

Ask your dealer if anyone else has ordering one that the build order can be changed and you can swap the wheels with it when it arrives

I did test drive an F20 with 245 rears and sport suspension without running into understeer, but that test was run on public roads. I couldn't push the car quite as hard as I could have on a track.

After reading about the understeer, I have tried to provoke it on my car, to see if it could be related to driving style. Even when I select medium throttle in a long gear and turn in too quick, there is very little understeer. Most cars will understeer very heavily in that situation.

They actually offered that option as well. They are very helpful and working on different options to help.

But the only issue is the VIN of the car has a full record of all original parts. Including the wheels as well.

Also the extra waiting time as well.

If something goes wrong with swap over wheels, it wouldn't be covered by the warranty.

I guess it will be wiser for me to stick with whatever coming with it, and star to enjoy the ride on Friday LOL, try to think positive.

F20 handle quite like a dream even with the stock setup.

I hope my sport suspension and will compensate the 20mm I lost in that 225mm wheels

How does it ride?
The one I saw with 20" 6 spoke wheels looked like it was on wagon wheels and the guy was having them replaced with the originals

It rides fairly well the same as before, may be that being non run flats now helps but I have to say I was expecting quite a difference and pleasantly surprised. Was the one you saw m sport ? I have m sport so it is already lower than norm so doesn't look like its on wagon wheels
