One reverse light-lazy design? Cost cutting? Or..

Not a big deal? It just strikes me as such a lazy solution when designing a light cluster. Given how small they can make the reverse lights, if you use the old 1 series hatch as an example, surely they could have squeezed one in both clusters.

They could have maybe made another clear strip, same design as the indicator, made it thinner and smaller and put one underneath the tail light, just above where the current reverse/ fog light is. That way the car is symmetrical and also I believe the whole reason reverse lights are white is to illuminate the area behind the car. 2 lights are better than one!!!

Grrr.

They're more for letting other cars know that you're reversing than to light the way for you. I couldn't care any less about it personally, I generally don't get out of my car to watch someone else reverse park it for me so I'm unnafected by it and when my friends and I play Car Top Trumps, the having one reverse light card is rarely played.

I'm not sure I've seen any cars with two reverse lights. This really warrants a thread?!

To each their own...

It must be some kind of retarded European thing to only have one. Over here in Australia, nearly every car has 2.

I often have people stop me to tell me that "one of my reverse lights is busted".

I have to inform them, no, this is how BMW do it.

They always give a puzzled WTF look.

I've always wanted one of those Hella 300w lamps at the back so that when I put the car in reverse the poor fukr behind me thinks a plane's coming in to land.

My old Datto 1600 rally car had twin driving lights mounted above the rear bumper, for visibility when reversing out of the ravine you'd just plunged into. Good for reminding people they had their high beam on, too

Every other BMW has 2 for a start. I guess some people notice different things. Like album art offered me about 2 min on novelty value but for some guys it seems quite important. But then I don't post in threads that don't interest me either.

Or it could have no reversing light at all and whenever you wanted to reverse, a relevant pop-up message would appear on the iDrive screen! Who cares about pedestrians and other cars?

Infra red reversing camera will solve this issue
It would operate through the iDrive and when you select reverse it will have one of those annoying voice overs repeating
'look out for pedestrians and other objects' - 'look out for pedestrians and other objects' - 'look out for pedestrians and other objects'

I am happy with one reversing light

BMWs have the 2 reverse lights, go and check there is a globe in the second one and all, if the first on fails I believe the second one will start working until the first one is fix. You will also get a message in idrive letting you know.

The F20/21 has only one reverse light. The same bulb position on the other side is a rear fog light, also single sided.

Personally I don't care if a car has one or two reverse lights. However, some of my colleagues would "never buy a car with just one reverse light". WTF, each to his/her own I guess.

I had a VW Transporter with no reverse lights. That was quite annoying when parking in the dark, so I added a reverse light myself.

If you're used to reversing in the dark with two reversing lights, and thus being able to see where you're going on both sides of the car, dropping to one is quite a thing to have to get used to. It's not about bling, or "Top Trumps". The reason these lights are white is that they light your way. In the dark, with no street lighting, you'd be amazed at the difference this makes.

Equally importantly, two fog lights are far better than one. They immediately anounce not just the presence of your vehicle, but also its width. In really thick fog, and from a distance, nobody can tell if that's a car or a bike up in front.

I think it's worth a thread. It will make a fair bit of difference to me reversing on my drive. I need the most light on the nearside (uk) I also like things to be balanced and to look ascetically right. And yes, all seven of my previous BM's have had two reversing lights. Some have had only one rear fog light, which again looks odd, but less of issue.
