N13 exhaust and tuning

Hey guys,

I have a mcchip-dkr stage 1 tune on my 116i. I can both hear and feel the exhaust is too restrictive. It makes a strong whistle or whooshing sound on high RPM, which I'm guessing is coming from cat. So I would love to replace the whole exhaust with a full turbo back exhaust.

I also want to know if anyone have replaced the charge pipe?

I'm planning a stage 2 upgrade.

- Intercooler
- Charge pipe
- Turbo back exhaust

I just saw a new Blow off valve for the N13 (fits other engines as well) from GFB in Australia. Anyone has any experience with this product?

For intercooler, I would recommend the M135i oem intercooler. Most of the aftermarket ones are too big and causes lag.

I used this charge pipe ( http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-N13-1-6T...-/401029139993 ) for some time but caused vibration and didn't make any big difference so I've switched back to originals.

If you have the budget, go for brands like Supersprint for exhaust. Otherwise, you can always have it custom made.

Gfb dumpvalve is great. Oem one is cheap and plastic and not good at holding the boost at stage 2 levels and will probably fail after sometime. Gfb is really easy to install, very durable and makes a big difference.

You may also consider using methanol with this setup if you want a little more power.

You'll have a different car after all these modes and love it even more

Interesting about the intercooler.. How much would a OEM intercooler set me back?

Supersprint is too expensive. I think I will go with a locally produced with remote controlled valves:

So, I listened to your advice, and got a 2nd OEM intercooler from a 335i (17517005531). Looks like they use the same intercooler for several different cars.

I think it will do the job for you. Even BMW use those intercoolers when they put MPerformance tuning kit on x28i cars. And yes, they use the same intercooler for all of the x35 cars i think. It is also a direct fit for our engines. While you're at it, you may want to upgrade your spark plugs for reliability.

Just like the intercooler, you can use oem M135i spark plugs. They are a bit longer in shape but they fit and work well. I had friends using them and they were happy with it. I used NGK laser iridium spark plugs and didn't have any problems either so I would recommend both of them.

Have driven my 114i m-sport manual for a year now with ESS 218 hp ECU tune + 2,5" Milltek cat-back.
It is crazy how this car changed! From 102hp it was given that it would, but in this way! And adding the switch from 95 to 98 ron also made an impact.
DSC off... In the wet; I can drift a bit in roundabouts etc.. It pulls all the way. Also got the dyno papers from ESS on this, and I believe them.
Kept the original cooling (cold in Norway). Next I wanna try the Gfb. Difficult to diy? Sportscatalyst is also tempting, but pricy.
