Black painted wheel rims

Not sure on going ahead with Black Rim's. BMW will arrange for them to be painted and baked for 498 pounds including tax. Has any of you guys had good experience with black painted rims.

Hi,

While the idea sounds great it might be a bit to dark.

Basically, unless the wheel is big enough then painting it in black (especially on a black car) will make them look smaller.
It's a really odd affect but I have seen it a few time before.
I have anthracite coloured wheels which work really nicely with the colour of my car and the M calliper behind them. However, black would not work on my car as the adaptive suspension does not lower the car quite enough. So with the gap in the arch and a black sprayed wheel, it would have look horrible.

It's about personal taste though. And I am not saying don't do it. Just give it some thought.

Hope this helps

D

May look OK'ish with a contrasting car colour such as Valencia Orange but imo it may work on the track but not on the road.

I've gone ahead with painted black rims and it's going look great but have to wait to take delivery first week of September. The dealer has loaned me their demo 116i motor sports to drive in the mean time.

I must say the demo drives so much nicer than my 2012 116se and the pricing of my new car is $3000 (including $12000 of added equipment) less than my old 116i was to purchase.

I got mine coated black by the BMW Dealership, see attached pics....

As people have said, it's just down to personal tastes. I think mine looks great with black wheels on white, I also got the mirror caps painted black to match, and have the BMW M Performance kidney grills as well....so mine is very 'black and white'. I like it, and as we know, that's all that really matters, so if you like the idea of it, go for it..!

I personally just like black wheels, I got the black pack on my wife's Land Rover as well...I do agree that it makes the wheels look smaller though.

But yeah, some people definitely don't like it....I found a forum where someone had posted pics of my M135i and 8 out of the 10 people that replied said it looked horrible...so yeah, whatever - each to their own!

I'm about to buy some matt black 19" BMW M3 CSL wheels (VMR made) and will then use the standard 18's for track days.

I am among the people who don't like black wheels. The exception is if there is some sort of contrast stripe around the wheel, preferably chrome or silver, but the car colour can also work.

Really like the look of your rims and don't see them as being small. Your white BM looks cool

I'm always looking forward so my choice may be a couple of years ahead of the main stream. Mini and BMW are starting to offer black rims from the factory.

I've even asked for the 116i badge to be removed so their is no silver at all on the exterior body other than front and rear BMW's badge. I'm off to the States and Mexico for all of August this Friday so will not see the new car until 3rd September.

Their is a bonus I will not have to worry about brake dust any more

I hope when BMW brings out Apples Carplay they will be able to update existing cars.

I think some contrast is good. Looks beautiful with the standard grey wheels I think.

Thanks for posting the pic of the M135 with black wheels!

The only think I have against Black paint with Black wheels, trims etc is that you loose contrast and any definition of the shapes. The Look is OK in full sunshine. You just have to drive during the day if you want to impress

That's the great thing about black you just blend in. New Zealand does have a lot of black cars and woman just love black cloths. Black is the colour to have if you want to impress the girls.

If you're not looking closely, it looks like the wheels/tyres are completely missing. Just a roundel at the hub.

Yellow! not my taste.

Really like the blue brakes they go with the M Sport badge on the side of the car. Will have to add this to our pending order for our new 2 series convertible next year. I was looking at a new Mini convertible but as my wife pointed out i'm not a female hairdresser so go and buy the 2 series convertible.

Just dropped my new plates off to the dealer for our 3rd September delivery.
