However, in reality, I think the F22 coupe and F23 convertible will not share a single body panel with the F20 (or F21) hatchback. And I think this will happen regardless of whether they decide to call them the 2 series or keep the 1 series name. This is similar to how the E92 and E93 don't share any body panels with the E90 (or E91), and the F32 and F33 will continue the trend by sharing nothing on the exterior with the F30. SCOTT has said they intend to differentiate the 2-door (3 box) 1 series models from the hatchbacks this time around.

In other words, I don't expect the controversial F20 face to remain. Though that doesn't mean they won't come up with something just as funky and controversial for the "2"s.
+1 I hope so...

Great work guys... Your work is much appreciated but If the front doesn't look close to E89's coupe render, I am not buying it.
and E89's coupe render looks like an E92! lol very cool

You mean massive body roll, a steering system that is not connected to the front wheels, and the engine note played through the speaker system?!?!?!?!

Picture 1 looks great - it would be nice to see the coupe turn out like that.

The red convertible profile picture (quite a ways down the page) looks too much like the Honda S2000 to me...a little bit of a goofy nose. I hope the new 1 series doesn't go that route.

I'm also still adjusting to the hood line that cuts across the front of the car about 3" behind the emblem. I always liked it better when the hood line carried all the way to the front of the car. It just seemed cleaner.

this looks great

but who ever designed the headlights on the hatchback should be shot in a public square
they truely ruin the look of the 1 series

WOW! The coupe rendering looks really good. Still not a fan of the redesigned hatch

First pic of white coupe looks great. Pic of red coupe (side view) looks awful, like a Pontiac Grand Am (big butt syndrome)

I feel BMW won't make the next 1 like the white coupe pic since they don't want a good-looking affordable BMW to impact their 3 series sales. Just my opinion.
The next 1 (or 2) series is destined to be an ugly duckling or at most, an almost good-looking car, but never will it get the limelight. God I hope I'm wrong...

Wow! I am absolutely in love with that side view of that red coupe. The still photo with the 5 spoke wheels. I hope that's the way that looks.

^ Proportions yes, and that in effect is it.

What we do know is the 2er Coupe/Covert will (not have the longer front end) look different than the f20 1er Hatch.

Nice render work regardless!

I like the first render of white coupe, but they lights seem like they were taken from the 6 series ie. much better then new 1er

Also The rear lights of the new hatch remind me of VW Polo for god's sake!!
The fronts are ugly but I guess we will get used to it...

It was said that the next 1-series coupe (or maybe 2 series?) would come out 14 to 16 month after the hatch...

which means Dec 2012/ Jan 2013

Now that the Sporthatch is out although the jury is still not on the styling.

Attention turns to the renderings crystal ball to imagine what a Coupe might look like? and virtuel car blogspot take the first attempt.

Of course what is known is that the new Coupe and Cabrio will be known as the BMW 2er which allows BMW to keep a specific market for the Premium compact twins.
This also means that styling will not mimic the Sporthatch, with some changes to distinguish the two apart.

So close....But no cigar...
