Hi guys, Just a quick update. My car has been at my dealers since Monday. They found metal fragments in the engine oil. They are now stripping the engine down and will contact me to let me know if they're going to rebuild or give me a new engine.

I will demand on an out of the box new engine. The car had 14k so I think I am in my right to ask for a new engine. Furthermore, I wouldn't be comfortable (no disrespect) with my local dealers rebuilding my engine.

I'll keep you posted as the job progresses.

Just got a call from my local dealer. They are replacing the engine. I hope this one turns out to be a better one than the original.

I agree. Very decent of them. Delivery of new engine expected on Wednesday. I just hope there are no complications during fitting.

BMW factory warrantee requires the dealer to replace a engine if major internal component/s fail. The only downside is that they add an additional ID plate as the engine number will be different.

Hi AusF20,
I actually asked the service manager if there would be any changes on my logbook and he assured me the number of the replacement engine would be the same as the original one. I told him I wouldn't be happy with a different engine number as the car would depreciate in value. He told me BMW would stamp the same engine number as the original to the one they're sending on Wednesday.

I will call on Monday to get some clarity on this.

Thanks for the information.

You should hear the racket an M135i makes on cold starts! But it's mostly a rather pleasant racket!
