Unhappy Runflat broke 1200 km in...

Perhaps this isnt the right place to write my thread, if so Ill erease this thread.

Just wanted to tell you addicts my experience with runflats just a month in with my car :[Its a short story]

So it was a regular day in my life with my bimmer, really enjoying it, and so I went through a speedbump. Thats when I heard a pop. There went my first runflat; through a speedbump, with just 1,238 km in...

I do have to note that 3 weeks passed by since I did not check my tyre pressure, so that could of had contribute to the pop. Weather was at around 5°C (that is really cold, normally we are at around 25~.).

Should I switch to normal tires or stay with runflats? Do you still use them?

Extra info; Never drifted, Stock (no mods), size 17.

If the tyre pressure was wrong, the car would have told you.
I run non runflats both summer and winter on our F20. You just have to bring some extra stuff in your car to deal with a puncture.

Must have been some speed bump or you hit it fast to destroy a runflat imo, tyre may have been defective as I have not heard of this type of failure before.

The wall of my front-left was torn 4k miles in after hitting a massive pot hole at ~30MPH

The saving grace of the run-flat tyre was being able to complete my journey and then drive to a garage to get a new tyre. They're expensive but very handy when things do go wrong.

Remind me of that when I next have an issue with my tyres... currently on standard tyres

That's my point, that's a raggy pothole at speed, OP must have found the speed bump from hell, or been tanking it to pop a RFT.

I thought about going pneumatics due to cost but then reconsidered it as the difference is only about £50 a corner plus carrying gunk etc. Then thought about my annual mileage which is pretty low meaning several years between changes anyway.

Still considering a taller profile and 17" wheels rather than the 18" I have for Summer. The 205 / 55 / 16 Winters I have on give a much softer ride but I guess a 17" wheel would be a 220 profile but probably still a softer ride than 245/18.
