Certainly it doesn't help when they exaggerate the image by putting lights behind it.

Lamborghini LP640 exhaust does the same thing....

I drove by an IS-F a couple weeks ago and I thought it was subtle yet somehow gave a mean presence as it drove by. Definately wouldn't confuse it with a normal is350, isnt it based off the LS platform?

Yeah the engine and tranny are based on the LS. Engine reworked by Yamaha and stroked out and the tranny is beefed up as well. Here are some photos of my car and a few of the exhaust. It is true the tips are not connected to the actual mufflers and some even consider it cheesy, but there is function with this design and more and more manufactures are starting to go this route.
