65412220058 is the correct part number for the Alpine retro fit.

Still no news of anybody having already retrofitted this?
I need some feedback on the sound improvement over the standard hi-fi... Wouldn't like to jump into the pool without some background info...

It'll be on mine, but you have to wait until november until I can tell you something about it.

Its a gamble for me too but I got a huge discount. In any case it has tweeters and an amp over the standard system so it should be quite a bit better.

Probably won't beat HK though, but I don't want to pay that much since I hardly use the stereo anyway.

I have been told the apline system isn't an option for my car by BMW because i have the professional radio pack (663) so I'm disappointed.

Alpine Retrofit Audio Upgrade kit for the F20

As far as I know its the speaker package you have chosen, not the actual radio - so this kit works if you have the standard rubbish speaker system. Which I have too.

That wiring diagram shows two base speakers, you do not have these with the standard package.

I don't think it can be retrofitted with the stock system, which is annoying as the standard system is especially lacking!

My BMW dealer and schmiedmann have told me its not available for my car. I also tried to order one from ebay and they requested my VIN and said the same thing.
I agree with you prajayn and it seems logical that it should work. Where/how am I going to buy a kit if everybody is saying it cant be done?

Then you're very lucky but don't have the standard system, at least not the same standard system that we have in the UK.

IIR the Business system has 6 speakers, maybe you were lucky and got a free upgrade?

Wierd, will have a look but I have the 6 speaker system too, and when I bought the car it stated it just had the professional radio with the display - 2 woofers under the seats, 2 mids in the doors and 2 4" things at the back - I thought this was as standard as it gets?

Theres no way they made an even crappier system than this? Is there?

As long as the car has the woofers under the seats this system should work - thats the only way it links to the head unit up front hence no recoding.

BTW the little Alpine mids aren't that amazing looking - doubt they offer much more oomph than the speakers already there. Main thing here is the addition of the amp. Not doing the woofer swop yet, if it sounds decent then I will probably just leave it.

Hi. I've just posted this against another thread ... but for the sake of spreading the knowledge about I'll repeat here. I've been told the same thing by BMW. I have a new 118d SE with Professional Radio (SA 663) and am told that the Alpine upgrade is not available when they plug my VIN number into their ETK system.

Looks like others are having the same issue. I't's bizarre!

The base system is the Business Radio. As far as I know the Professional just has the addition of the 6.5" iDrive screen. The Business Radio and Professional Radio both have 'Two-way, six-speaker, 4x25W loudspeakers'. So they all have subs under the seat.

My Dealer was telling me that if I had the Business Radio the Alpine upgrade would be compatible. But the Professional is not! BMW UK customer service said that "BMW make small changes to the spec and thats why my particular Professional Radio is not compatible. Appears odd to me that BMW's own installation instructions state that it's compatible and then they make cars that cannot be retrofitted. Am I missing something here?

If you take a look at page 7 of the Installation instructions where it describes the Diplexer. You'll see that connector B4 is specifically designed to be attached to cars with fitted with SA 606, SA 609 and SA 663. Connector B2 is for cars with the Business radio. You'll see this information again on page 12 where it describes the installation in more detail - "Only cars with SA 606, SA 609 or SA 663 Connect branch B4 to the tweeter".

meh, i think it's a load of bullshit tbh... looking at the installation document it actually has caveats on 'if you have professional radio' etc.. do this instead

on my F21 (soon to be delivered) there was no option of anything other than prof radio.. or higher of course
