This thread completely derailed and became the "financial enlightenment thread"...
Never seen so much bullshit in one thread! Everyone is contradicting someone else while being 100% certain of what they are claiming.

To OP, best advice is: move to Europe! It's way nicer here :P
Western Europe is a cesspool of left wing retards bending over backwards to a bunch of radical Islamist, while they leech of off their socialist welfare system. All that while jacking about 60% of your income...

If anything I'd move back to Poland.. Low cost of living and very little violent crime.

Why does every keep telling this guy to buy a house? He lives in SF...that's a RE bubble waiting to burst.

If you do buy, wait until the market tanks and assuming you've got the job security, jump then.

Shit did not see that.. Puts things in a whole different perspective. His $130k a year there is pretty much like $60k any where else.

Next topic is we generalize NJ or other parts of the U.S.? I am embarrassed for you.

I said he should save for a house so at some point in time it becomes a viable option. Based on what he said houses cost I don't see it happening anytime soon and if he has the money available his choices are much greater.

Choice of expensive car and low savings or more reasonable car and money saved for a house I recommend option two. Then he may not be interested in having roommates the rest of his life whether or not he wants to buy a house.

OP, buy the car while you are still young enough to drive it. By the time you follow the financial advice on this forum, you'll be too old to enjoy the car, and your wife won't let you drive it to its limits anywyas, and won't appreciate you taking it to track all weekend long when the kids need school clothes, or to go to games, or. . . unless you hook up with someone like bimmette

Ask some of us old guys how we know:
1MOREMOD might still go to track, but his knees HURT when done.

ASBSECU E93 well, can he really drive Ms. Piggy? Inquiring minds want to know

shoei Just not sure on his age, and whether or not he had to steal the car anyways.

Me: I only afforded a 325, not even an M, in part due to the above mentioned family issues.

BUY THE M, BRAND SPANKIN NEW

last comment, it would be so nice to throw caution to the wind, I'd be in a '16 F80, putting 50% down and financing 50% over 36 mos. is not the problem at all, it's the opportunity cost, and that's not just me, it's the homeless guy and the wealthy guy alike.

Anyway, as a sweeping generalization, anybody who starts out by saying max out your 401k, max out your ROTH, is likely to have some good advice in my book. Not that many people do it when starting out. Say you land your first job out of college, paying 85k. The likelihood of you doing 18k to a 401k, and 5.5k to a roth is pretty unlikely. But should you do it? Absolutely. If you have a stock purchase plan, do that as well. Buying a home is not a given, a wrong decision there can set you back decades. Saving for one, is another story.

fecurtis - I believe the suggestion has been made the OP buy a rental, not a primary home.

This would position the OP to take full advantage of the R/E bubble...

I kinda dig that ASBSECU E93 car's official name has become Miss Piggy... My greatest contribution to OT...

And he drives like he's driving Miss Daisy... He just got spanked by a soccer mom in a SUV not too long ago...
