Harman Kardon Equalizer

Hello guys,

I picked up my F20 today with the Harmon Kardon sound system and Navigation Professional. To my surprise I could not find any equalizer settings appart from treble and bass settings.

In other threads and forums I have seen multiple screenshots from a 5-6 band equalizer, why is this not available for me? My nav is equipped with the new iDrive (touch).

Same here.

I suspect the EQ settings are only for the lesser audio systems as the HK is so smart it tunes itself for you.

Only the HK logic 7 which is the next higher level system has the equalizer, the base HK system don't have this.

But the HK Logic 7 system is not available for the 1 series, right? At least I haven't seen any other option besides the normal HK.

I had the same thing happen to me, quite annoying.

Went from a 3-series with HK that had Logic 7, saw option for HK in the new 1-series, chose it. Only to find out there is no Logic 7.

To me personally the sound quality was very noticabely worse without the Logic 7.

But now 3 years later, and two new 1-series, I have gotten used to that HK system so it doesnt bother me.

Also that whole "smart tuning" is a joke, it doesn´t compare to Logic 7.

Allright thanks for the facts, nothing to do about it I guess.

Very lame that they include the option in the F30 and not tot F2x

Check out the HK website

1 Series has 12 loudspeakers positioned around the car.

5 15 x 26 mm metal-matrix dome tweeters, dashboard, front & rear
2 22 x 217 mm woofers (central bass), below the front seats
5 35 x 100 mm ALumaprene midrange speakers, dashboard, front & rear
Harman Kardon® Logic 7® DSP amplifier in Class-D technology with a total output of 360 watts

3 Series has the Harman Kardon® Logic7® DSP amplifier in Class-D technology with a total output of 600 watts, to drive 7 tweeters, 2 subwoofers and 7 midrange speakers

Class D amplifiers are very power efficient MosFET designs that output very little heat. DSP (Digital Signal Processing) does all the equalization, phase correction and level setting to keep the 12 or 16 loudspeakers playing in harmony. A car is a very challenging environment in which to get good sound, especially with so may loudspeakers to manage. Essentially Logic 7 takes a 2 channel stereo signal, divides it by frequency and sends it to the 12 or 16 loudpeakers with optimum phase and level

It seems that the latest version of the HK's Discreet Logic 7 no longer comes with a user controlled 7 band parametric equalizer, which had a number of predefined settings supposed to create different listening environments (jazz club, concert hall etc.) achieved by emphasizing certain frequencies over others and adjusting the amount of reverb. In fact, all they did was introduce a controlled level of distortion that would get quite tiring over extended periods.

Nice info, but I doubt anyone was ever interested in the different environment (jazz club, concert hall, etc) when selecting HK for the 1-series.

We just wanted the logic 7.

You've got Logic 7....Its what's in all models, from 1 to 7 Series. All that varies is the number of loudspeakers and the amplifier output power

Provide an answer why the system sounds so much different compared to the logic7 in F30. It sounds poorer in every way.

The F30 has more loudspeakers (16 vs. 12) and a more powerful amp (600 W vs. 360w)

Other than that its a very similar system....same loudspeaker chassis, same amp topology, same DSP, slightly different acoustic environment

Of course there are other variables which have to be controlled for when comparing audio systems. Head unit, digital source, audio codec (lossless vs. lossy, compressed vs. uncompressed), sampling rate, bit rate etc. all make a difference

Logic 7 is the processor that allows HK to, amongst other things, take a 2 channel audio signal and pass it to 12 or 16 speakers with the right frequency range, phase and time delay to make them play together coherently
