What a terrible story, considering the news media put it correctly.
When a ghetto drug addicted female treats her child as an expendable, it is disgusting but has explanation. But that female was wealthy enough to drive a BMW. The whole situation was about the price of a side window vs. child's life, and here I stuck. What the hell was she waiting for? What about the onlookers' reaction, it's such a shame the whole crowd was standing doing nothing and just watching. May be making selfies? Posting to Facebook? Hopefully somebody had brains to call the firefighters for urgent action. I hope there is a law in that city and this biological mother will be sued and parental rights will be disputed. I wish this child will grow up and see that clip, and so he will never absorb such a perverted attitude to anyone. |

I still say she must have been scared of the father and his reaction on the "ruined" car. No mom would stand around and not break a window.

You're making a lot of assumptions, LOL... Chinese people are actually materialistic enough to make this happen.

I am aware there are cultural differences here, but I still would not believe any woman would let a window keep them from their baby.

Frankly, I think the mother needs therapy. Kids are resilient and mentally malleable; the child will probably recover or at least learn to adapt to its circumstances. The mother has likely passed the age of maturity, so it's going to take more, I think, to get her to stop suppressing her maternal instincts, or to imbue her with more of them than she seems to have. All the best.

I agree the mom needs therapy, but I was going on the assumption that the cumulative damage to that child over time will cause the need for therapy. This must be one incident of many unfortunately.

To us, she has clearly lost it and is bat-fuck insane. To them, it's another beautiful day in the neighborhood where they treat their possessions better than their own people. AND keep in mind that I have seen some of these types of people personally, although probably not as extreme as window-saving psycho here. http://www.ibtimes.com/china-confirm...est-level-2000

I believe generalizing on the whole nation what one learned about somebody, a few individuals or a group is a totally wrong way. That's how the most false and offensive labels are created (all ... are ...), mostly because of very limited information or some personal issues, or both.
This is typical today, the weirdos of all kinds hit the tabloids to amaze readers, when the majority of normal people stay unknown where they are. Just be smart to differentiate. |

I might not rebut your comment were you to have made them specifically with regard to one or several governmental policies or actions, but picking up a fallen old man from off the street isn't at all a governmental action. Moreover, you can rest assured that if nobody helped the man up -- something that is a literal impossibility -- a policeman would eventually show up and do so, just as one would in U.S. or any other Western country. Additionally, unlike American culture, the Chinese one values seniority. There are over a billion people in China. I'm sure you can find examples to illustrate the claims you made above. I am in the PRC almost every week and have worked there for nearly a decade now. What you claim above isn't at all what I've observed. Not from total strangers whom I just see going about their business. Not from the people whom I meet but don't otherwise know. Not from the people whom I know. In fact my experiences and observations have been exactly the opposite. So much so that I think Chinese people may be the most generous, interpersonally outgoing, humble, curious and helpful people I've come across in all my travels. Cocky, arrogant and self-centered? Those are traits I am sure some Chinese people have, but as a culture, I just don't see it. I think culturally, those traits are more typically American, not Chinese.
You write that you've first hand experience in China. I'd think from that experience you'd know quite well that for more so than in most Western countries that there are two Chinas: the Chinese government China and the people of China. In my experience in the PRC, what I observe from the government and what I observe from the people are vastly different observations and attitudes. All the best.

Because I'm not going to do it. I don't owe you an explanation for why I'm not going to do it and I'm not going to give you a better explanation than I just did. End of discussion on that topic.
All the best.

Well, although I know from personal experience from yearly travels to Asia that this is obviously not representative of the entire culture/countries.
Having two bi-racial children of my own (asian/american) I can not think of one thing I would place in-front of my children/family from a priority standpoint (my life included). The mere fact that this was even contemplated (let alone actually occurred) left a serious WTF?! on me as to the future generations, and what sort of mind set is being created in that anyone placed a depreciating/replaceable object before the safety and well being of their children. I will (gladly) never understand, but it is extremely sad and disturbing. Ok, I'm going to hug my children now... |
