I finally had a look at our 116i with a camera. The oil valve seems to be nice and dry:
I did however find some rust under the seats. No surprise there. |

Okay. update on that Drivetrain Fault... After another visit at the dealer's to get this lookd at again, they've decided to replace the vanos sensor. They have ordered it overseas and will ring me for another visit to replace it when new part comes in... to be continued....

They must all be heat related as I also have none of these problems after 5 months and 7k miles. The solution is clearly to move to the UK where it is winter all year round.

My F20 has 8000k on it now, only had the under seat rust issue, got that fixed the week after I got my 1er. Maybe the 125i is lucky
So I have to ask Do their assemble F20 in China for their local market? |

The level sensor is faulty and apart from giving flase readings, sometimes it leaks as well. That is what my authorised service told me.

I now have a new major problem. my steering rack is faulty. I noticed it when turning left, you feel a slight knocking noise and can just feel it on the steering wheel. it almost sounds like bushes or ball joints but it's much more serious.
worst thing :- steering rack is on 3 weeks back order because of the amount of failures. The new rack is a new part number as the existing rack is prone to failure. |

Of course BMW is taking notes. Not from this forum, but from the warranty claims. They have very good statistics for things like this. And they are constantly trying to improve parts that fail. That is why the last production years of a car model are always better on quality than the first years.
