Motor oil for M135i

Hi, may I have your advice on what motor oil and grade I should be using when I do the oil change. I am asking because I heard dealership in Hong Kong is using shell helix, while the owners manual recommends castrol.

I heard the same, BMWHK has switched to Helix Ultra 0W-40, also checked with most petrol station they are NOT offering this grade (5W-30 instead). But I guess as long as it is BMW LL-01 certified it should be OK.

As long the as the oil is BMW LL-04 specs, then you are OK. BMW recommends Castrol, as they have a long-time partnership but any oil from any reputable brand is OK, if is LL-04. Shell Helix (make sure is the LL-04 specs) is a good oil, so I would not worry.

LL-04, as these are the newest specifications. If you cannot find LL-04 oil, then you can use oil that covers the older LL-01 specs, but it is not recommended to do so regularly.

Just did a quick search on the web, seems like LL-04 is for euro area with low sulphur fuel, while LL-01 is for others.

BMWHK charges $2,200HKD for the job (6.5L oil + filter + labor), if you buy your own I suppose it added up similar to that amount?
