Don't be embarrassed about what happened. It's BMW's fault! They shouldn't have made such smooth running engines! Keep enjoying your beautiful car without remorse!... |

I do this in winter...
I do this in winter. Start car, switch seats and windows heating on, lock it, come back after 10 minutes and drive it.
It's better to switch all heatings on, because then the engine gets more load from alternator and heat up quicker then without load. As long the oil amount/pressure in the engine is ok, everything is ok. |

I did this. I recorded the value of water and oil temperature as I go to work. Like our good friend Fanis pointed out it would never reach the full working temperature. Indeed as the graph shows, it doesn't. I asked the guys in BMW how about it, their response is for me not to worry about it too much. Supposedly the on board computer(s) takes many information into account, and it is unnecessary for me to second guess what the car does. Still, I wouldn't hard throttle now that I know it takes like 30 minutes or so in my situation to warm the car up to its full temperature, though to be honest I do not know if it's necessary.
Blue is water, red is oil. I noted the top three time there I was stuck in traffic, then the last three I was moving at about 30~40 mph. Friends your thoughts ? |

I guess this is the upside of leaving the auto stop/start on. I have gotten out of my car several times without hitting STOP and the car has turned itself off. I assume if you disable auto stop/start then you risk the sort of thing that happened.
But seriously mate... don't worry. You've used a bit of fuel, that's it. No harm done. |

I nearly did this last weekend at a wedding.
Pulled up to jump in a taxi, taxi started driving off when I realised the lights were on- told the taxi driver to stop, I ran to the car to find the engine was still running! Good job I noticed, otherwise it's be running for 24 hours, as I was sleeping over in a hotel!! Your engine will be fine |

I really can't see the point of keyless go systems. I mean you still have to fumble with the fob to open/close the car. Also leaving the car running unattended is illegal in the UK and might land you some point on your license.

If it was almost impossible to hit the right button without looking at the fob, then I would agree with you, but I find it very easy and thus also see the value of Keyless Go. Also, I was terrible at forgetting to bring the key with me as I left my car previous car, so this is an added bonus of the key being in my pocket. |

I like the way BMW give you a place to store the key inside the car. what's the point of that? Might as well stick it in the ignition. |

Pick up keys Leave house Hand on door handle (unlocks the car) Open door Sit in Press 'Start' Drive Of course, if you want BMWs original user story, you need to cough up the $$$ for all the features |

Comfort access makes sense to me. It's just the half baked system on the new cars that doesn't. |

I've almost done it myself too, when in a rush. But I realize when I go to open the doors and I need to double pull the handle. Doors unlock on power off so if i go to get out the car and the door is still locked then I realize.
But surely they should have the car power off when key is out of range for security. I mean if you forgot to lock the car then that is a great offer for a thief to ride off in the car. It's almost like leaving the keys in the ignition. How would an insurance company even handle that? |
