I have the same criticism towards the 8AT as you. Especially during que driving I really hate the jerky shifts between 1st and 2nd. I would really wish I could complete disengage 1st gear since 2nd is just fine for all kind of driving.
My friend is driving a Z4 DCT and that box is SO MUCH better than our 8AT! Blips, down shifts, up shifts are seamless and lightning fast. I would pay BIG bucks to have that box in my car.
I really hope there will be a software update at some point that will fix this issue.
