I was in sweden we drove some very nice roads. I had spike winter tires on.

I saw that...the paddles work well for this, and allow you to keep your hands at 9 and 3 on the wheel, letting you know which way your wheels are pointing and instantly ready to react if you have a sudden slide or hit a bump.

nice, reminds me of my RWD f10 the way it oversteers around those bends.
this video goes to show that Xdrive is useless with a good set of winter tires and some proper driver control. |

But the conditions in the video were hardly slippery, and there were no steep roads. xDrive is more for going up hills on wet ice. If this isn't something you are likely to experience, you can just as well go for RWD.

As Ove says, xDrive has its effects elsewhere. On the BMW snow and ice experience day that I did, we saw this in action. There was an M3 with snow tyres, which was used for some hot passenger laps of basically level rally-style track circuit, which the M3 handled well -- as in lots of sideways. But it didn't do so well climbing a simple snow mound, which was a doddle for the xDrives. Nor was it as controllable on a snow covered, ice-based drift circuit, which the big xDrives -- X5M/X6M -- were able to execute perfectly controllable power drifts....not that I can think of any public road where you'd do that!

Advevo How do you find the M140i with LSD as a drivers car compared to the 1M? I have a 130i with LSD and looking at upgrading to either a M140i, 1M or E92 M3 6MT. Would appreciate your thoughts on all of them

Nothing beats an M!
I have also an 1m coupe and an m2 the steering feel on those cars are better then the non M cars! I would choose the 1M if i had to pick one. |
