Drivetrain Error.

"Drivetrain - continue journey at a moderate speed. Full performance not available."
Just had a sudden drop in power when accelerating and this message on the screen. I pulled over straight away turned the engine off for a couple of minutes and turned it back on but the error message came back as soon as I set off. The gearstick is juddering a lot at idle and even more so under acceleration. The engine doesn't sound too healthy either, almost like it's running on 3 cylinders. Could this be the case?

Any advise? I'm supposed to be driving 60miles to Leeds later today.

If the engine sound is strange, and the driveline is vibrating more than usual, the engine could very well be running on only 3 cylinders. Sounds like you need to plan alternative transport to Leeds.

Rang my dealer and they advised me to call out BMW Emergency Assist, someone came out and plugged the diagnostics kit into it and it's misfiring on cylinder 1.

My 116i from 2013 gives almost every morning the same message. I drives quietly off, then I get this message after about 2 minutes. After a few minutes when I turn off the engine and starts it again the message is gone and there is the rest of the day nothing wrong. The car is now two years old and I think I have no more warranty.

You should have minimum of 3 years warranty

thanks for your reply
This mail I got one and an half months ago. I do not know if that applies to the entire car or for some parts.

I translate it with Google

Dear Sir,

Time Flies: soon it is already two years since you went on with your BMW 116i 3-door for the first time the road. That means that the warranty period of 24 months ending on Wednesday, January 7th, 2015. Hence, we will send you this reminder.

If you have noticed something that you wonder if it is eligible for the warranty, please notify us as soon as possible. If you just phone or email contact we make an appointment with you workshop. Obviously you do also use the Online Appointment Scheduler

Of course we can for you to perform an end control guarantee that any defects can be resolved within the warranty period,

My dealer offered me a warranty prolongation (of it's own) if I buy a diagnostics last time we met. I was just sceptical about that. (If not in BMW, than what to trust in? "God"? )

Had my car in at the dealer and after inspection it was a faulty coil pack, it was a quick and easy fix

It's the matter of treating everyone with respect and reading replies on this forum site their are people who don't treat dealers nice. Cars are designed and built by people so their will be faults in every product. BMW is just like Apple who work to help and repair or replace asap.
