I love jthe new design of the BMW Active Tourer ... and I know the new FWD will be the best in class... The AT (or 1er GT) is nor created for sporty drivers ... it is created for Families which want a roomy and shorter BMW in comparison to the 3er Touring!!!

In my opinion bmw has to be open minded for new technologies like a FWD BMW

This model is obviously not tailored to the purest "driving experience" BMW loyalists. This is form and function in a practical format. They still make the M3 for pure fun!

Bmw is a hypocrite now. They even used to make videos and market how rwd and 50/50 weight is superior to fwd.

Don't need FWD cars... Handling isn't better than a RWD or AWD. It isn't as safe. Not fun to drive. Don't like the direction they are going in with FWD BMWs -___-- not the ultimate driving machine any more if they go that direction...

Don't see the problem in this and offering more choice. Plus I don't see anything saying it's superior to to RWD. I'm sure people had the same reservations about diesels a few years ago.

If they were making the 3 series FWD then I'd understand the complaints... but they aren't!

It's a different world now and BMW has to move with the times.

There is no problem as long as we have the F20. But if there is no longer a rear wheel drive 1 series, I will probably have to look out for a different brand. The 3 series is too large to be interesting.

The Toyota GT86 is the most promising alternative right now.

Why does the worst BMW, FWD, have the best look, details and tech?

This car is AWD. Even FWD would be better than RWD for this car though. RWD suits bigger cars. Even for the bigger cars though, 4 wheels would help in getting the power down.

So small cars like formula one single seaters would be better off with front wheel drive in your opinion?

I'd be surprised if there wasn't a Haldex AWD option available at some point. Reduced boot space would be something to consider though.

Anyway it looks great. Don't think I'd buy one though. If I'm buying a BMW I want to get a BMW, and for me that means a BMW developed engine and RWD otherwise I'll look elsewhere. In sure it's going to sell very well though, because most people don't care about that sort of thing.

No, I meant small cars, not formulas. Very different, especially in power and because of the power....
Small cars are all fwd because that saves in weight and the small cars don't really need RWD. And saving in weight is great.

If you're not taking advantage of superior driving dynamics, why pay the premium for a BMW? Just get one of the other small, boxy, boring cars and save money.

Bmw is all about superior driving dynamics independently of the size or layout. Mini is not your average fwd box, but a relatively expensive car that drives well.
