Best Closeups of F20 1-series + Mirror Turn Signal + Interior Spied
BIMMERPOST NEWS Best Closeups of F20 1-series + Mirror Turn Signal + Interior Spied These are the best close-up photos of the F20 1-series 5-door hatchback yet. Everything can be seen clearly - from the front bumper design, the more upright front fascia and grilles, to the camouflaged headlights purposely taped to trick the eyes into thinking they are larger, and the rear lights powered by LED light bars. A closeup of the side view mirrors confirms that the next gen 1-series will be the first BMWs with integrated side view mirror turn signals. This particular model is a 2.0 diesel (indicated by the N47D20 motor designation on the dash label) auto start-stop engine technology, paired with an 8 speed auto transmission, and appears to be an FEP prototype (final evaluation phase). What's most interesting about these photos is the interior, which hasn't been spied since last November. The dash shows a very driver-oriented angle and design with a large fixed navigation screen. This particular test car has a bit of style splashed into the interior - from the red stitching on the steering wheel, to the matching speedometer line, and the red passenger side trim. We're unsure at this point if these will be regular options, parts of a special package, or special edition. Both cars are due out later this year, with the 1-Series hatchback (a car not likely to come to the USA) expected to make its World Premiere at the Frankfurt Autoshow in September (http://www.bimmerpost.com/future-bmw/). In usual BMW fashion, the Coupe body style (F22?) should arrive roughly 1 Year later, and would be expected as a 2013 model. BMW M will also have its hands at the new 1-Series and an M version should arrive 2 Years after the arrival of the hatchback this year.

Love the stitching on the wheel.
What's up with the "Ready - Off" on the RPM gauge and what is that other button that's connected to the START/STOP button? Looks like things you would see in a hybrid...? Edit: Just read "auto start/stop." Ops.

Nice! Very revealing photos ideed! However neither the interior nor the exterior makes me stare with open mouth. In fact I can't even say that I am impressed at all. Maybe after the final revealing it will grow on me, but for now I am rather skeptic! Better wait and see.

Liking very much the interior and how the Idrive screen looks. Would like to see the N55 or maybe a N54 under the hood.

So, the guy who applies all the intentionally misleading swirly vinyl bits and pieces - is this a full-time gig? How does one get into that line of work? I wonder if he comes from engineering-side or design-side? Whoever he is, the misleading headlight size tape is a nice touch.
My hats off to you BMW Testing Prototype Design Misleader Person. |

Wow, what an expert opinion! In your fail list you forgot to mention the transmission, tires and cup holders! Last edited by dagobertsmurf; 02-17-2011 at 02:22 PM.. |

All I ever see is these cars with snow piled up around them. I hope the AC works because the summers here are hotter than hell.

Great pics!
Not sure I like the squished angel eyes. Round or flat-bottom a la new pics of F30 would be better. As far as actual shape goes, this looks so close to the E87 to me, I really can't spot any body styling differences. I like the current-style nav screen better (seems more vertical), but the new steering wheel definitely looks more modern, and has more functionality. And what is this gauge for? |

They have an entire division called: Advanced Research Division for Misleading and Inception. It's turning into an art these day; you really can't tell the shape of the headlight in the close up picture... Nice work... They should make this kind of effort to make us a supercar! Anyways the back looks like a VW Golf 4 no? idk if am the only one who sees it...

I need to double check, but that "interior" looks exactly like the last interior fitted to the 3-series prototype. Methinks thats not really an interior at all. Edit: I am correct it seems: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=455611 Last edited by Coni; 02-17-2011 at 03:32 PM.. |

This may be my next BMW if BMW decides to offer the 5 door M Sport in the US. I like the fact it has a HVAC stratification setting like in the E9X 3er. I miss that feature in my current E82 135i.
*The 8HP45 sticker below the air vents cofirms the F20 will have a 8-Speed ZF automatic transmission. Looking forward to the unveiling!
