F20 125i 160 -> 180kw?
Apparently the 125i has the same engine as the 328i (N20) but with a lower output. So I'm wondering: could the engine in the 125i be upgraded to 180kw? Is the difference in the tuning or is it something mechanical e.g. bigger turbo?

Same engine...once the tuners release a remap it will easily go to 250+ bhp. The question is not ''if'' but ''when'' they will do it.

I read about this on another forum:
http://www.kelleners-sport.de/b2b/in...vid=862&cat=28 192kW! Now if only BMW would release an M performance kit with the same so I wouldn't have to worry about voiding the warranty. |

I don't think they will in the near future, considering the present model line up (petrol engines):
Today: 116i, 118i, 125i, M135i It will definitely come a 120i, but the hp gap between the 118 and 125i is too narrow as it is now. A logic model range in 2-3 years would be: 114i, 116i, 118i, 120i, 128i, M135i They wil probably launch the 114i in a short time, but the rest will have to wait untill 2014 or 2015 imo.

All in all, the only difference is the software, as is the case in most BMW models now, that share the same engine with different outputs.

Does this mean that with for example Burger Motorsports piggyback you get around 55 extra horsepower instead of the 30 hp in the 328?
Or with Kelleners remap around 296 hp. In such case, this will be an amazing car :-) |

As it has been explained in a previous post one month ago, the engine is exactly the same. It is the N20B20A. I own the 125i. Believe me, the power and the torque are really there and sufficient. Don't forget that the F20 is lighter than the F30. If you take a look at the BMW website, you can see that the 125i MT outperforms the 530i.
Best regards sl91

No...it is the same as with the 116i / 118i tuning box. Because they are tuning boxes, they are limited by the stock ECU in terms of output. Once a remap is available, it can go to the same levels of output as the 328i...unless they do not do it due to marketing reasons.
